Compact 9mm

Hi all, I'm thinking about getting a compact 9mm, I was thinking about either a cz75 compact or a Springfield xdm3.8" compact. I realize they are 2 totally different guns, what do you guys think the better of the 2 is? Also I would love some other suggestions. Thanks all

I mentioned this in another thread, but between the two mentioned, go with the CZ. If you are open to other options, consider the Kahr PM9 and Glock 43. I bought the PM9 because the Glock 26 I have was a bit much for pocket carry.

the CZ cannot be beat, my opinion. best defensive pistol that exsists so far. nothing wrong with poly strikers either, i just much prefer the sa/da for many reasons. like the trigger number one, the saftey features and the natural pointing. note that not everyone with small hands enjoys the grip of the CZ, go grab ahold of a couple before settling

Either one of those two would be an excellent choice. So would a Glock 19.

Of the two you mention, I guess I am biased toward the XDm 3.8 Compact because I own one in .45 ACP. But dang, those CZ's are nice.

I don't think one is better than the other. Try them out, if you can, and see what works best for YOU.

My favorite compact 9MMs are the Walther PPQ and the SIG SP2022 (other than the SIG P228 but good luck find one of those) but there are a LOT of great compact pistols available. Again do your best to try them out and make a decision.

Good luck!

I have four compacts, Sig P250, Sig P320, Beretta PX4 and a Glock 19. All are 9mm's. I have over 10k rds thru the Glock with no problems over 15 years. I like them all and carry the P250 the most. I have a older CZ 75 (Late 80's) that is a great full size gun. I have shot the CZ compacts and they are nice too. As for the Springfield XD, I personally don't like them, never could shoot them well. There are so many great choices out there, if you can rent or know some the owns the ones you are interested in, try them out and see what works best for you.

I am a fan of CZ and have a few of them, therefore, I definitely recommend the CZ. Never shot the XDm before so I am bias with my answer.

Other suggestions:
TriStar C-100
SAR B6PC

Love my full sized TriStar and I'm really impressed with the SAR. Both based on CZ's so you can't go wrong. The price, especially on the SAR can't be beat.

I have a KelTec PF-9 over 600 rounds of ball and HP not 1 problem . I also have a older CW-9 it to has been a good pistol.

The CZ compact (the all steel one) is really heavy for its size. It's also not left handed friendly (single sided safety). The PCR and the P-01 are alloy framed versions of the CZ 75 Compact and are much lighter. The PCR is my favorite CZ of all time (favorite gun of all time even) and is what I would recommend. If you really want to make it a great carry gun, get some VZ 'frag' grips for it as well.

There are some details missing:
1. Budget
2. What is this gun for - edc, home defense, glovebox gun...
3. Previous experience with similar sized guns for any reference points
4. Hand size and preferred carry method?
5. New or used?

Both good choices, I'd go with the standard 75 compact myself, so I could carry cocked-and-locked.

If you like the CZ but want something a bit lighter and about the same size, take a look at the CZ P-07, very solid DA/SA compact 9mm and shockingly inexpensive for the quality you get, IMO.

Get the CZ compact......

Just finding a CZ75 compact or RAMI is a challenge. Shooting one is a dream.

It's a lucky dog that finds a CZ on the shelf.

If you can find a copy, the July 2015 Guns & Ammo has an extensive comparison of many 9mm single-stacks that includes over 600 rounds shot through each guns (9 of them). Detailed evaluations of accuracy and reliability, etc. Three staff writers and several LEOs participate din the tests. One of the best, most credible evaluations I've seen in a gun mag.

+1

I have the Canik 100. Just got it and I'm very happy with it. I plan on changing the stocks to something rubber. Great price, a good platform for customizing. I recommend it!

Sure, there are lots of other factors to consider and there are other good guns out there but if I had to choose between those two, it would be the CZ, hand down.
