Compact 9mm

Not sure if you knew, but Glock has a new single stack Model 43 on the market. Small (3.39" barrel) and in 9mm. It weighs almost 18oz unloaded and only 1.02" wide. Resolves some of the issues many people have with double stack magazines. Might be something to consider.

Not happy with my Nano

My experience with Beretta Nano has been less than good. It is finicky about the ammo it will shoot and has about a 3% FTE rate. Not to mention that the rear sight fell off the first time I used it.

To be fair, others have reported being satisfied with their Nano.

Don't write off the Sig 290RS. This little guy has handled every type of ammunition I have thrown at it. From 115 ball to 147 +p and everything in between. When I say it has "handled it," that doesn't mean I was left sore after 50 rounds. This pistol has a little more weight to it than others in its class which makes it pretty comfortable to shoot. It's also incredibly accurate for such a small pistol.

The problems that plagued the early production 290's are in the past. If you have an opportunity to test fire one of these, I recommend you do so.

Disclaimer: I am an average sized adult male with average sized hands. Your experience with this pistol may vary.

I have one in my pocket right now. Excellent gun!

Hey guys, 21 yrs security police, USAF Retired, E-8 SMSgt

Service weapon 92 Berreta, just got around to going with glock 19 when I retired in 03.

Anyway, could not pass up the Luke AFB BX, price on the Glock 43 single stack 9mm for $447 out the door :)

I was looking for a conceal carry 9 anyway so ..sweet..

Put 100 124 grain thru it today, date of sale. Man, I really like it, added talon grip cutout rubber grip made for glock 43...world of diff to me and my grouping shows it :)

ps..bought a glock 19 in 03, 8000+ thru it, no issues:cool:

If money isn't a issue then the P938 is light weight, night sights, and very accurate.

I own a Kahr CM9 and a Springfield XDS 9. I've had a few jams in the XDS, it is very susceptible to limp wristing. The CM9 has been absolutely perfect for years.

I'll jump in with my comments on nano.
Not yet totally bashing it but mine after todays first range session is a disappointment. FTEs. Winchester 147gr efmj had the most issue. 8rd mag is uncomfortable and its with this mag I had issues, the 6rd mag the gun had no issues. Nonetheless I'm hesitant to say that the nano is gtg. I need to maybe see if it breaks in a little bit and go from there. I still want to see how much of the problems are because of the 8rd mag vs the 6rd mag. But after a while since I hate the 8rdr, I'll concentrate on seeing how reliable it is with just the 6rd. For all I care I'd prefer to just carry 2 spare 6rd mags rather than one 8rd mag. I grip the nano much more comfortably with the 6rdr than I do the 8rd. Maybe somebody will make a better base extension design for the 8rd mag because the beretta one is goofy as hell. Trigger so far is great. Sights are clear, gun is accurate as hell. It sucks that they though it neat to put grub screws in the sight for user adjustment! Folks if you have a friendly local gunsmith they'll adjust your sights for you for not that much money, or nothing at all if they adjust them at the same place that you do your range practice! That sight setup is crap. If I decide this gun works well enough after launching a lot of both practice and defense ammo and plan to eventually carry, I'll get real sights installed on it. I like the nano enough to want to see through the testing but like I said, not confident about it as of now, but honestly too early to tell. I've heard a few people say their's is trusted now but it needed a break-in period. There have been problems with the 938 and extraction, but its probably not as bad as the reports with the nanos. If you don't mind the long DAO P250, the P250SC is fantastic from my brother's experience. Not a single hiccup from day one out-of-box! Some cheap ball ammo might've needed re-strike at times but very very rarely. If you don't mind a larger, heavier though quite IWB concealable, the P239 is a no-brainer, no break-in there, that will be fantastic as well!

If you are looking for "almost pocket sized" guns that still have some grip to them, make sure you consider extended magazines for each.

For example, a Springfield XDS-9 is just barely too short for my hand, with the 7-rnd flush magazine. With an 8-rnd magazine, it fits just about perfectly. While extended magazines designed to increase the surface area for the shooter's hand aren't great for speed reloads, they are nice for improving comfort and shootability.
