common issues, used SW

Yeah the breeding problem in the safe is a major issue. You put two in there together and soon you have to buy a separate safe just for that model. I know since the last time I checked them out that there are a bunch more in there. It just happens.

All 38/44's by the way.

I bought a 1910, IIRC, triple lock target in 44spl some years ago. It was in nice shape and I took it to the range. The cylinder bolt didn't always catch and lockup correctly and I had to index it for some of the shots. I figured the hand might be worn.

A friend knew a really good gunsmith, everyone that hangs a shingle isn't necessarily competent IME. I sent it off to him. All he did was thoroughly clean the internals and sent it back. The lubricant had dried up in it and that slowed down the works.

Once I got it back it was smooth as silk and operated like new. One that I regret selling.

What does one fire in a 38/44 these days?

Why they fire 38/44 of course! ;) (The 38/44 is a hot rodded 38 special that was the precursor to the 357 Magnum.)

I load 158 LSWC's to about 1100 FPS as my standard plinking load. I shoot a lot of them and this is not even the full collection. I have about a dozen more I have picked up since then.

I will reshoot the shot here in a month or two. I have more on the way.

My mentor told me to focus so I collect only one type and make (38/44's both Heavy Duty's and Outdoorsman's). Mostly I try to buy pre-war but when a good post-war comes along I snag it.
