this maybe off topic, but it seems to me the whole damn country is turning commie. we are losing our rights and privacy more and more everyday. imy wife and i just returned from a vacation in europe. when we arrived back in the states, customs thoroughly searched our bags, after they found absolutely nothing they demanded to see the photos that were on my digital camera and also the film that was on the video camera. you can imagine our embarrassment when they saw the erotic photos and video that we had made. what ****ing right do they have to demand to see our photos? we are not muslims or arabs we are AMERICANS. i havent been so pissed off in along time. illegal aliens have more freedom and rights than Americans do. what a shame.

Tight security at airports is a good thing, but checking out a camera is going too far. Next they're going to wan't to know what kind of underwear you have on.

Im not sure they had a right to look at your photos. Did you suggest they pull the card, and turn it on, or look at some photos that weren't "personal." If you feel upset enough about this matter, you might enlist the services of a lawyer for more enlightened advice

I dont think they have a right to look through the photos, IF, they were stated as private, and IF they saw an "erotic" photo, then continued looking, in order to humiliate or gain entertainment from the exhibitation of the photos. One would assume that the camera worked (what I am going to assume is the motive for looking at a photo on the card). I would be filiing a lawsuit if they looked through the total contents of my laptop, because it contains porn. I would think that turning it on, and seeing that it was not a bomb designed to look like a laptop. The same test would, presumably be used on a digital camera. Id be all over them with a lawyer if they did that to me.

as far as my comment "we are not muslims or arabs we are Americans" no i dont think they would have the right to look at thier photos either unless they had VERY hard evidence that these people had terrorist ties.

just to make it clear, i had NO problem with the search of our luggage, i even expected it. airport security should be tight, but to demand to see whats on our cameras is way over the line, and yes once they saw the first erotic pic they proceeded to scroll thru several more and then did the same with the video camera.

it was Holland. so i totally expected the bag search, had no problem with that at all. the country we came from shouldnt make abit of difference, they had no reason to look at our photos.

Find a lawyer, but you may run into some legal snafu's, because of the patriot act that our feerless leader, Prez Bush enacted reducing out constitutional rights to mere writing on old, dry, fading paper, that symbolizes our fading rights

Things in this country do seem like they are getting way out of hand. We are losing freedoms little by little. Soon we will just be another country with subservient citizens. Sad really. Reform? What government would willingly reform the system in which they hold the power. Media? too busy scaring us into thinking that we need to lose these freedoms to be protected. The future looks bleek, i just hope we the people can/will do something about it.

i am considering talking to a lawyer, though i doubt it would do any good, and i am definately not made of money which those guys crave like oprah does food.

Find one who works for part of the settlement/payoff of winning the suit. Many take their fee from that money, not upfront. I may be wrong about that, but otherwise, I dont see how some of the people who throw unnecessary lawsuits around afford them.

talking to their superiors is something ive thought about also, though i wouldnt expect to get anything out of them but the runaround. after that humiliating experiance all we got was "thanks for your cooperation". and i forgot to mention that at first it was just 1 guy, then he called over 2 others who also looked at the pics, made thier days im sure.

Well, the reason that I mention presuing a legal action vs. talking to their superiors, is that this type of thing should not happen. Screeners are federal employees that should be held to a high standard of professionalism, and what he said shows a clear lack of that. When people are being searched, you are (legally) invading their privacy. Would you like some smart-alec looking at private naked pictures of your wife/girlfriend, then asking some other guy to come over and look while in public? Its just about as bad as ordering you to strip, and have sex in front of them because they need to do a strip search. There are things that are minor enough to bring to the attention of superiors, and there are things that need to never happen again. Those things require a little more than just a talking to.

I despise the lawyer types too, but if you want them to pay attention to your problem, and potentially the others that have likely occurred before, you have to give them a reason to be scared, or they will just laugh it off.

I would just ask for compensation for my lawyer fees, and their jobs.

I would at the very least speak with a lawyer and get their opinion on the matter.. if they say it's not worth filing a law suit, then that sucks... but my guess would be you have quite a case. Calling over others to look at the pictures is only that much more incriminating. There is no excuse for it, and I really do hope you speak with a lawyer and let 'em know that won't be put up with. I feel extremely pissed off about it, and i don't even know you. People feeling like they have the right to trample your rights into the ground just really sets me off.

its good to see that im not the only one who would have been severely pissed about it. i dont think ANYBODY would have cared for that to happen to them. while they were looking at our private photos i wonder how many people walked by them with drugs? it was a flight from amsterdam and they sure as hell werent checking everybody. maybe they thought we were going to smoke the digital camera.

Don't forget that you have another alternative, contact your senator or congressman. Although some of them may forget about people in thir districts until re-election rolls around, some still care about "their" people. May not work but it won't hurt and costs nothing. Enough reports of this nature will get someones attention!
