Colt Trooper MK III

Here is the Trooper I picked up in a pawn shop for $500 OTD a couple of months ago. Serial # 8548XX. I used to have a web site for colt serial #'s but lost it somehow. Again any and all help is appreciated.

nice looking trooper you have there. I love my 6" trooper, also saved from a pawn shop. Adopt a pony every chance you get. Happy shooting.

Check closed auctions on Gun Broker.

I bought mine for $350. Prices have really gone up in the last couple of years on Trooper Mark III's, especially the 22's. I would guess about $650 if it is very good condition.

Very nice Trooper. I love 'em...bought 3 several years ago during a weak gunbroker moment--6" Enickle, 6" blue, 4" nickel--paid between 5 and 600 for all. You did well. The intermediate strength springs in the Wolf spring pack will do wonders if you have a stock trigger. Enjoy.

Did the serial # search and mine was manufactured in 1975, same year my son was born. Maybe he'll want this one as he didn't want the Python or Anaconda I had.

I got one for $350 not long ago. Great gun!

dfariswheel will tell us that we should not dry fire it without good snap-caps. If the firing pin shatters, only the Colt factory has the tools to replace it.

But mine needs work. Seems that some previous owner worked on the springs to get a very light trigger pull. And now it will not reliably "pop" the magnum primers. :(

Budda, I want to get some wooden stocks (grips, whatever we officially call them for Colts) just like those. Are they factory? I don't want the larger square-butt style seen in the first pics in this thread.

Yes they are factory grips, original to my gun. the square butts are earlier than mine, I think 81' and newer had the rounded bottom. I prefer them to the square butt, feel way better.

I have one just like yours except in .22lr. The MK IIIs are built like a tank. I still prefer S&W revolvers, though.

The Trooper MK III was the first weapon I was issued for uniform patrol back in 1978 when I went LE. Tried to buy it from the dept., when they went auto but was refused. I have been trying to find a nice one for the last couple of years just cause its a neat trip down memory lane.

Colt Trooper Mark III

Great looking Trooper! I just bought this one yesterday. It's my only Colt and it's growing on me rather quickly.
