Colt saa torx screws?

Phillips and flat head screws are pretty notorious for camming out and ripping up the screw heads and it ends up looking pretty ugly. does anyone make a set of torx screws to replace them? They're so much more reliable.

Phillips head screws?...Torx heads?....On a Colt SAA?
Go bang your head on the wall for a while until you come to your senses. It makes me cringe just thinking about it!

If the screws are buggered replace them.

I like the TORX idea if you can change them all.

Let the verbal beating continue...

Or a really cheap (soft steel) screwdriver that's just a little too big; file it to fit. Now you have a custom gunsmithing screwdriver.

Improve our techique !!!

They're so much more reliable.
They certainly are but not applicable in this case. I'm sure if the "mustache-Petes" of old, had this choice, they would have gone to them. As noted, the application of the proper screw-driver and it use, is better. Most of the time, when I ratchet, it's because I am not paying attention and let off on pressure too soon. It's like a Receiver, running before he has fully caught the ball. ...

Be Safe !!!

Alright, you guys can be Colt purists all you like, but there's really no denying that torx screws are better in literally every application. That's kind of why they were designed.

I'll just get a set custom made I suppose, tighten them once, and laugh while you purists are re-tightening your screws every 10 rounds.

I'm happy for you !!!

I forget that you did ask if they made them and not if you should use them. I am totally happy for you. .....

Enjoy and;

Phillips screw heads were designed for machine installation. The screw head centers the bit. The same can be probably said about torx screws. I do not recommend using a screw gun to install or remove frame screws on a SAA, I use the proper hollow ground Magna-Bit from Brownells and I turn the carefully by hand.

Get a good set of hollow ground screwdrivers . . . . putting phillips head, etc. on a Colt SAA sort of seems like it should be a "felony'". Not only that . . . "old Samuel" would be turning in his grave!" :D

Once past the initial horror at the suggestion, Bill points out the obvious mechanical truth that the head type doesn't matter re the screws backing out.

Although I like the idea, in fact i hate flathead screws, the fact remains that if you use the correct screw driver it's a non-issue. The problem is so many companies make wedge shaped flat heads and think that should work. Of course it doesn't. Use the RIGHT driver and you won't tear out the screw. Seems like there are much much simpler solutions that having screws custom made. Maybe a little loc-tite if you feel like your screws are coming lose!

As has been said, by people who actually know what they're talking about, if you use the properly fitting screwdrivers you should have anyway, it's a non-issue.

A lot of heat there, but sort of pointless unless there is a source for Torx screws for the SAA; I don't know of any.

As many torx screws as I have seen butchered, I wouldn't want them. Just use the right screwdriver, and you'll be fine.

If I walked outside carrying an SAA with torx screws on it, I'd be worried about being struck down by lightning from above.

Get the proper screwdrivers and tighten them properly and you won't have a problem.
