Colt quality

I have owned, I gotta do thinking. Ok I'vr only owned 12 current thinking. 1 1916 Commercial, 1 1968 Gold Cup. 2 S70 Government Model. 2 S80 Gold Cups. 1 S80 Commander. 1 Python. 2 S80 1991. That's 10 I will let u know if my recollection is wrong.

Mine was ok until I starting messing around with it. Returned it to the stock guide Rod and recoil spring and bought some fresh Mags and now all is well. I've seen what a high end semi custom 1911 can look and feel like and it is nowhere near that, but for $900 it's everything I need it to be.

Tucker your a bad man, I appreciate your service. But you don't see the civilian side of weapons like the Colt 1911. I have done it before you were born my friend.

I always like to think I can make something better. In this case, Colt's Mfg. knew better than I. What the heck do they know though? They've only been doing it 105 years ;)

I have owned four Colt 1911's. Three were bought in the seventies, a Colt Series 70 Government Model, a Colt Combat Commander .45, a Colt Combat Commander. .38 Super. Of those three, only the Combat Commander .45 had no issues. The .38 Super eventually had to have a new slide and barrel due to improperly machined locking lugs.

A few years ago I bought a XSE .45 Combat Commander. The recoil spring was underpowered and would not reliable function the gun. The firing pin spring was to underpowered to hold the firing pin stop in position when firing and it would drop down and tie-up the gun. The checkered wood stocks were the worse I have ever seen on a gun...only a blind quality control person would have missed it.

So, is it any wonder I get angry when someone posts about what great quality guns Colt produces?

The Colt XSE full sized meaning the 5 inch all steel .45 is quality in fit finish and function. Mine sure is.:)
John Browning original Design was for a 5" all steel 1911, not a cut down item.
This is why so many have problems with the smaller 1911s.;)

I have a 1995 Colt Officer on my hip at present . Not one problem . I have a 2005 Colt Defender also trouble free . I bought a New Agent when they came out . Shot it a few 100 rounds all trouble free . I sold it because I didn't like the gutter sight. Other wise still be in my Colt Family.
I see very few problems with the Colt Compacts on net. More with the copy cat Kimbers and others. Not all Compacts are equal . But my experience is Colt has the compact field sewed up as far as reliable:D .

If you read my post very carefully you will see that my problems with thoes Colt 1911 had nothing to do with the fact that three of the four were Commander length...in each case, the problems were matters of quality control. Furthermore, my Colt Series 70 Government Model was a full size 1911...with an extractor that had so little bend in it that it would fall from the extractor tunnel when the firing pin stop was removed. Also note that stocks on the XSE Combat Commander were very poorly checkered...also nothing to do with being a Commander length.

Ehh... Ive fired one colt 1911 purchased recently by a friend. Can't remember what it was exactly, but it was an 80 series. He picked it up dirt cheap (like 500 bucks), and it looked rough but a good cleaning/lubing did the trick. Trigger is horrible compared to other 1911s I've owned and fired (Kimber, RIA, Springfield). Honestly, for the price of a colt I honestly feel that money would be better spent on a SA range officer. Just my opinion.

To be fair the only colt I've fired was a used one, and it looked rather poorly cared for. I have handled many more and the finish is nice, but I don't see where they have less expensive manufacturers beat in fit and function in my Limited (with the brand) experience.
