So i just ordered a Colt LE6920, hopefully my purchase a good purchase. can anyone with experience with this make and model tell me the pros and cons of this rifle? Also I would like a rail system to put on it and a decent red dot sight. Whats some good brands that are out there?

Thanks

Had one as my service rifle for 2 years. With me, there were no cons. The dept ended up taking the rifle back 6 months ago from me and 11 other officers to put in another unit that needed the weapons. I ran an eotech L3 sight on mine and it worked great. I was going to buy another one for service but I actually just scored a hell of a price on an Lt6720 talo edition for a killer price and couldn't turn it down. But as far as your purchase goes, you'll be very happy, as long as you got the flat top. It's a pain in the a$$ in my opinion running optics off a carry handle.

That's fine. You can remove the carry handle if you like and run a red dot. Mine was the same way. I purchased a flip up rear sight for the one I had that way the iron sights would cowitness with the eotech incase the optic ever failed.. You could do the same thing if thats what you want.

sweet, never thought about having iron and a red dot on the rifle at the same time, I just want something simple and functional, thats all

It's a real simple set up. It might take you a little to get everything zeroed in as one. Now that I made swat, our sgt is a real stickler about being tactical. The red dot helps a lot with quick target transitions, and like I said, if it's fails in the middle of a shtf scene I've still got the irons there.

JMF ,

If you buy a rear sight you can run it and the red dot no problem. You can buy a " fixed " rear sight or a folding sight that will snap down flat when you're not using it ( most of the time , as you will be using that red dot I surmise ?)

I like Magpul, their version of a " Back Up Iron Sight [BUIS]. " is called the MBUS , Magpul Back Up Sight. On my S&W M&P 15-22 I have the front and rear MBUS set , and on my 5.56 AR I have just the rear MBUS ( since I have front sight base).

What kind of red dot you going with?

No idea, ill be scanning this forum and reading reviews for a while before i get one. Havent used irons in a long long time so ill prolly stick with those for a lil while untill i finally decide which red dot to get. Id like to stay around the 300/400 range, if you have any suggestions im definately open to them.

I am currently debating between one of these or something similar in a Middy, although Colt does not make a Middy as far as I know, so I will have to go with another brand.

Crow hunter do you personally own the aimpoint pro??

and what are some good sites to look at stuff? so far im familiar with midway, cheaper than dirt and nachez

Great choice for a first AR.
For red dots look at the Aimpoint H-1 or PRO. EoTech also makes some nice optics but I dont know the model names. For handguards I like the Magpul MOE, but if you want a free float rail, look at the Daniel Defense and Larue Tactical offerings. DD makes the Omega rail which can be installed without removing your gas block.

The m68 sight was an aimpro I believe and the eotechs we used as well. I used the 68 my first tour and eotechs & trijicon acog the second. I hate the look of the 68, but its pretty accurate and batteries last so much longer than the eotech. The acog had an iron sight on top that'll keep you in the "bowling pin" at 25m. I prefered the trillium or tridium (glowing) crosshairs over the fiber triangle. We usually taped over the fiber rail on top because it was too bright in the desert.

No.

I do own 2 Aimpoint M4s though. They are out of the price range you quoted.

My brother owns an Aimpoint H1 and it is very nice as well.

I don't have any personal experience with the PRO but I do with the M4 & H1.

Check SWFA and Optics Planet and G&R Tactical.

There are some other Aimpoint options in your price range as well. Like the M2 & the C3.

I own the PRO, it's a great optic. The biggest advantage it has over most competitors is the battery life.

But, for 95% of shooters, a Lucid HD7 or Vortex Strikefire will suit their needs skills fine. I run them on some guns I trust my life to with no reservations.
