Colt Gold Cup Series 70 Magazine?

My originals are 7 rounds. Noticeable in my earlier post with the magazines with the colt on them is an 8 round. Two of my Gold Cups I have the original boxes for. While having the original box is a plus none of my Colt Series 70 guns are safe queens. They all get shot. I am not the serious type colt collector I just have a liking for the Colt Series 70 guns and over the years have accumulated a pile of them. :) Again, I want to say 7 rounds but this is where a serious colt collector would come in handy.

The original magazine that came with my brand new Colt Government Model Series '70 bought in 1976 was like dgludwig described. I expect Gold Cups and GMs came with the same magazine. The finish of the pistol and magazine is blue.

Colt 45 Auto was stamped on the floor plate, no Colt pony. On the other end the magazine follower has a dimple and the feed lips are the hybrid type, not the old GI type.

Skans, yes 7 rounds, not 8.

Oh, the stamping of Colt 45 Auto on my original 1976 magazine floor plate looks like the magazine on the far left in Ron's photo in post #13.

I listed a few questions in another forum I am active in and someone provided this:

The thread is really pretty good and answers some questions as to what magazine and when. I would have thought the rampant colt was earlier. Wrong on that. The correct magazine for thew Series 70 guns was just the Colt .45 Auto unless of course the gun is a 9mm or 38 Super. :)

dgludwig - that's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, that pretty much verifies that an original magazine would not have the pony on it. I also think the correct magazine would be 7 rounds, can you verify that?"

Yes, the original magazine had a seven round capacity. I think all magazines made by Colt for Model 1911s chambered in .45 ACP, be they Gold Cups or otherwise, during that era (the 1970s) and, of course, before had seven round capacities.

As an aside, on 12-27-74, I paid $205.07 plus tax for my new Colt Gold Cup pistol; purchased from Imperial Firearms, (Western Reserve), located at 3314 Vine Street, East Lake, Ohio (just east of Cleveland). I still own and compete at Bullseye matches with that old Colt but I rather doubt that that neat old gun shop is still around. :(
