Colt 2000

The Z-40 didn't have a manual safety; there's a round plug in the frame.
It wouldn't surprise me if the CZ40 safety would fit, so there very well might be a Z-40 with a safety.

It may be that the photo I saw that made me think that they all had safeties -- was one of the very few Z-40s that wasn't DAO. I thought I saw a Colt rollmark, but perhaps it was a 40B. (It made no sense to have a safety on a DAO gun -- except maybe for a police weapon, where they sometimes do strange things like that.)

That said, I don't remember seeing a safety on the one I handled (and tried the trigger). But I wasn't looking at the details as much as attending to the trigger. Nearly all of them must be like the following photo, with the plug you described:

I frequently wish I had my CZ-40B back...

Just because something is "Colt" and "rare" doesn't make it valuable. It's a dog as an investment gun and will be for a long, long time. Given enough time, I suppose anything can be collectible. But, when you can still find these things selling in the $300 range some 26 years after first being introduced, it's a good bet that it will remain "unloved" for years to come.

The Rogak is far rarer than the 2000 / All American, and it's a dog too. I wouldn't pay more than $150 for one (just for curiosity sake to compare with my Steyr GB), even though some folks are trying to get between $400 - $750 on gunbroker for them!:D

I can't even find a CZ-40B in that price range. If you see any Colt Z-40s in that general price range, please contact me by PM and let me know where you saw it or them. I'll probably buy it. The last ones I saw for sale were in the $700 range.
