I think comparable American pistols are infinitely better, but I guess I'll bite. Of the designs I've had the pleasure of shooting, I think the Makarov is an excellent pistol and obnoxiously accurate and easy to shoot. I own a Tokarev and love the x25, but the manual of arms is horrendous and not fit for the modern era. Basically, you can't carry it unless it has an aftermarket safety. I believe the Romanian variants have made a usable Tokarev and I hear they are excellent. Not sure if the sights are usable, they certainly aren't on my copy! Now if you asked about Soviet rifles I'd love to own, the answer is all of them!
