CMP 1911s will start at $1000

$1,000 for a used lower grade 1911. Not me.

$1,500 for a new Dan Wesson Valor stainless with tool steel small parts, night sights, checkered front strap, beavertail grip safety.

It may be a good price for a collector, I wouldn't know, but I personally don't have any use for a used 1911 that cost more than a brand new Colt no matter its provenance.

The pricing is expected to start at about $1,000 per pistol with the better grades “priced accordingly.”

Well, over on the CMP forum, the High-Dollar Harrys are already lining up to snag 3 or 12 of these 1K shot-to-snot rack-grades.

Subsequently, these same rackers will magically reappear on gunshow tables across the U.S. as $2,000 field-grades.

Saw that movie before with CMP Garands.

So I think this is pretty much what the market will bear. As a taxpayer, I don't want the government selling surplus for less than it's worth and I think they will have plenty of takers for all but the most trashed guns at $1000.
The government isn't going to be selling these surplus firearms, it's giving them away. The CMP is not "the government" -- it's a private organization.

As IbMikey stated, the CMP is funded largely by the proceeds from the sale of their surplus firearms. Their prices are fair, but they can't afford to basically give guns away for less than market value, and we shouldn't expect them to do so. Considering that USGI mixmasters and arsenal refurbs are selling today for more than all-original pistols sold for just a few years ago, pricing around $1,000 is not at all unreasonable IMHO.

I don't need a 1911, I have a 5" Colt Government Model, a Colt XSE Lightweight Commander, a stainless Springfield Champion Loaded, and a Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry II. So I have my bases covered for 1911's.

But I would like a UNITED STATES PROPERTY marked 1911 to go with my 1917 P08, 1941 Walther P-38, and 1941 Walther PP, just for the historical value.

Most of the U.S. Military 1911's for sale now run well over $1500.00
So $1000.00 is not an outrageous price for a piece of military history.

If you're just buying a 1911 to shoot, then by all means get a new one and pass these by.
