In these last months of his presidency Mr. Clinton will be desperate to leave a legacy that will eclipse Whitewater, Lewensky, impeachment, etc. It occurs to me that his most lasting legacy may well be that handguns will from now on be referred to as pre-Clinton or post-Clinton manufacture (pre-locking device,pre-ballistic fingerprinting, and pre-political correctness).Sort of like pre ban and post ban rifles. Wonder which will be worth more on the secondary market?

I'm working on getting the phrase "pull a Clinton" immortalized as local slang for do something underhanded. To wit:
"Dude, I tried to be nice to him, I got my brother to hire him to paint the house, but he totally pulled a Clinton so my brother ain't gonna pay."

One of Clinton's biggest accomplishments was to scuttle the democratic controlled congress over guns.
He single handily sold more guns because of his actions than any other president.
He has become a national joke and that won't be erased by time.

Theory: More firearms were purchased by private citizens during the Clinton administration than during the tenure of any other president in the history of The United States of America.

How about this one. Clinton was single handedly responsible for 1,000,000 people joining the NRA in the last 15 months. I bet he did not figure on being remembered for that one.
Seriously:
He has left no social or environmental legacy that the left would want: no health care, no urban policy, no solution to social security or medicade, no improvement to the public school problem, no solution to the drug war, no energy policy, etec.,etc. He was just a big zero as far as meningful legislation was concerned.
He has spawned numerous infringments on the entire Bill of Rights not just the 2nd., which will have who knows what consequences.
He has left a foriegn policy mess: Bosnia, Kosovo, Columbia, most of Central Africa, Indonesia, Iraq, plus a very unhappy Russia.
His biggest contribution to American history will not be the accomplishments of his administration, but whatever happens as a result of all the chickens coming back to roost.

He has done to America what Gorbichov (sp?) did to the old USSR...but in the reverse. Twenty years from now he will be the presidnet responible for turning the once honored Bill of Rights American into a socialist republic.

We need no to focus on securing ("unpapered") guns for our posterity.

TheBluesMan: I have read that sales of firearms during 1998-1999 exceeded past records. Some of it was due to Y2K, per comments by buyers. Some of it was due to fear of new anti-gun laws.
Similar pattern to 1968...
You might write to some of the gunzines or to the NRA to see what data they have, or info as to who keeps track of annual sales.
