Cleaning rag?

Many options on this !!!

I just use an old bath towel to clean it on.
I too use these old bath towels on top of my bench. Just fold them to lay properly, on the working surface. They are soft and the pile or threads will keep parts from rolling off your bench. At some point they get dirty and just have the wife throw then in the washer. .... ;)

As for cleaning cloth, there are many good choices that have been mentioned. Whatever I use, including socks, I stick with a white color that can reveal a lot, like any fresh rust. Now for waxing, that is special. I like white flannel and used exclusively for this purpose. .... ;)

Be Safe !!!

I use newspapers on the table. Old T-shirts, scraps of flannel garments, and cloth diapers have all been used at my house for rags. I usually buy my patches, simply because they are so cheap that I can't justify sitting down and cutting or tearing cloths into the right size a gazillion times.

I work in a hospital and get the old OR towels, the ones they lay instruments out on, before they're thrown out. They're tough, sized right, absorbent, and great for guns as well as working on cars.

It's called a "RIG Rag " a rag treated with RIG preservative grease. You can make your own of course - an old cleaned cotton rag that you've treated with RIG. One that has some "patina "!

I also use old (clean) socks, moistened with PB Blaster, to wipe down the exterior of my guns. I found old sock doesn't work too well for cleaning patches, as it tends to bunch up on the brush, and I tried pieces of my old boxer drawers, but they tend to leave thread in the barrel. So I now use a bare bronze brush with Outer's tricare, or Remoil, followed with a swab and a Boresnake. my cleaning surface is an old beach towel.

All these rags and all this cleaning. Jeesh
That's the reason I got a Glock !! Shot it over a million rounds with no malfunctions, loss of accuracy or anything. The next best thing to sliced bread. Lol

As others have mentioned, cloth diapers are the best I have found. Very soft, absorbent lint free. I picked up several bundles (2 or 3 per if I recall) for less than $10 at Marden's, a surplus and salvage store we have around here. I have enough to last me for many years as they are dedicated to wiping down and cleaning my firearms.
