Clean handgun after each session, even 50 rds.?

If I'm cleaning I always remove the grips.

1. Makes access to internals easier.
2. Prevents missing dirt/corrosion under the grips.
3. Is an opportunity to make sure grip screws aren't corroded/rusted/stuck.
4. Is an opportunity to check grips for damage/breakage.

For the klutzes among us -- and depending on the weapon -- it's also an opportunity to knock something loose, have a spring go walkabout, etc. Some interesting moving parts are sometimes hidden under the grips...

I'll remove the grips with some of my weapons, but not all of them (or not all of them frequently). But reinforcing your point 3, it is good to check under the grips for unseen corrosion... Especially if you carry in the summer and live in a humid area.

Simply put:
I load ammo
I shoot my weapons
I clean my weapons
I reload the ammo
I remember a Sgt. Screaming at a recruit "ain't no rifle ever failed because it was clean and oiled"

I can remember a lot of OTHER things those sargeants said, too. One of them had such a bad accent that half the time we didn't know WHAT he was saying. Our first time on the drill pad with him we looked like an old Keystone Kops short film...

That said, we did know that he was P.O'd!

That's a good point. None of my guns use the grips to retain any parts that are likely to come loose with ordinary care. The closest would be the Beretta 92 pistols which have a spring that is protected by one grip. The grip doesn't actually retain it though, so even without the grip in place it won't go flying unless it's knocked out of position.
