Civilian Combat Stats

And david,

You can go to Toms website, for his newsletter. www.rangemaster.com

Never since Jeff Coopers Gunsite, when Jeff would list students that had been in gunfights in his commentaries, have I seen someone who would actually tell us about how his students did on the street. A few others would give general ideas of what happend but Mr. Givens goes much farther.

Thanks for the kind words about me as an instructor. I would point out, though, that most of my students are, in fact, the absolutely typical CCW holder.
Always glad to give praise where praise is deserved, Tom, but that praise is one reason I disagree with your second statement. I’d suggest that relatively few CCW holders, if they get any training at all, get the quality of training that you give to your students. Being somewhat familiar with training requirements in various states, and more familiar with the quality of instruction offered in a smaller number of them, I’m pretty sure that your people would come out at a better level than the CCW student who just sat through the NRA Personal Protection class taught by some well-meaning guy whose only experience is that he got certified to teach the NRA course.
The techniques we teach work, and that is born out in the 4-5 student involved shootings we average each year.
I don’t doubt it a bit. However, my point is that other techniques also work, with hundreds of successes over decades of time. Plus, given the fairly high rate of success that is achieved by the apparently untrained gun owners, I suggest that relatively few DGU incidents require much in the way of anything beyond a very basic level of familiarity with the gun.

david,

You are mixing DGU's, were most never even fired the gun, with 40 who actually SHOT AND DISABLED THEIR ATTACKERS. What they did wasn't just 'scaring' their attackers into leaving.

Talk about mixing Apples and Oranges.....

Sigh. Once again, deaf, you make up something to complain about that has not been siad. You obviously have no idea what kind of DGUs I was talking about, you made a wild guess, and as usual you are wrong. As I have said before, when I use the term DGU incident I am referring to a DGU where shots were actually fired. Please try to refrain from guessing at what I mean. If you don't know, assk, and I'll be glad to tell you so you don't look quite so silly.
