Cimarron Single Action Revolver

That's far lighter than I'd want on an SA.
Keep an eye on it, if it goes progressively any lighter it'd be a good idea to "heavy it up" some.

I own both Uberti and Piettia BP revolvers. The Uberti has the smoothest cocking and the smoothest trigger of all my SA revolvers! Simply wonderfull to shoot!
I haven't shot a cartrige Uberti but if they're that nice, WOW!
I have a Vaquero 357 4 5/8" which is a really tough gun, The trigger is OK but nothing to brag on... The reason I prefer Rugers is that they'll shoot loads that'll damage lesser revolvers. I just feel safer with one. I mainly shoot factory loads or low end reloads. I don't push my luck!
I would definately like to try a Uberti 38/357 to compare it to my Ruger.

Dennis, I thank you for your concern, however I'm very used to shooting guns with light triggers and I'm loving the trigger on the Cimarron.
It just surprises me that it's this good out of the box.

My open division raceguns had trigger pulls set at 1&1/2 pounds and my limited division guns had their triggers set at 2 pounds.
I sure burnt up a lot of rounds through those guns with nary a problem.

ZVP, that was my experience with my Cimarron Uberti, everything about this gun makes me say WOW every time I shoot it or for that matter just holding it in my hand makes me say WOW.
If all Cimarron cartridge guns are like mine they have one heck of a product.

Competition & carry are two distinctly different approaches.
I was just passing on that 2 pounds or thereabouts is considered way light in a Colt SAA type action. It'd be discouraged for carry & CAS uses far more often than recommended.

They don't normally come that low from the Uberti factory & the one & only one I've ever seen that did had such a soft trigger that its tip actually bent with use, rendering it lighter & lighter progressively till it got down to around one ounce, which was distinctly NOT safe.

You may have a problem gun.
If you're happy with it, fine.
Most knowledgeable SA people wouldn't go that low, and it may be an indicator of a potential future issue.

I have several Uberti S.A.s and all are excellent shooters. The one '73 that I have is an El Patron Competition. I like it very much and figure it is close to what you have. These are "factory tuned" and feel pretty good out of the box. I did some action tricks and replaced the wire combo spring with traditional flat spring and tuned each individually. It is quite the preformer!!

to give my opinion regarding quality of cimarron SA's,
i say to anyone considering a cimarron to not buy one online. you really should buy one you can handle first. i made that mistake a couple times because i assumed all cimarrons came with smooth actions. i learned the hard way through experience this is not so.
recently bid online on a used frontier model and i won it, but was terribly disappointed when i received it. HAD THE WORST ACTION EVER SEEN. very sticky hammer pull. it was likely made by uberti, since only "45 COLT" was stamped on the barrel, besides the cimarron stamp on top. it was also the black powder frame.
Also, Pietta is now what cimarron deals with for the frontier model, not uberti anymore. pietta frontiers that cimarron imports come with a smooth action, and they don't even had a tuned action job.
these new cimarron frontiers have "frontier" stamped on the barrel next to the caliber. and they have the spring bolt release for the cylinder, not the screw retained one.
just be careful if you are looking for smooth action cimarrons, lots of the out there are in dire need of action jobs

Thanks for posting that. Recently the SAA clone bug bit me very hard and I've come close to going OCD with looking at them online and reading old threads. There's a lot to digest, and I think you've cured me (for the time being).

But they sure are pretty...

That would be hard to say based on you single incident. My Cimarrons bought last year, are very nice.

Armybrat, I saw a video on youtube somewhere where they show them dipping the frames in some sort of acid solution or the like to impart that case hardening appearance to the frames.

Howdy Again

Yes and no. Cimarron puts one of their own QC reps in Uberti's factory and does an additional check stateside. Fewer lemons that way. Still "an Uberti", yeah (well, except they're now reselling some Piettas).

Sorry to be a doubting Thomas, but can you please give a reference to where you learned that? I have been hearing for years how Cimarron imports a better quality revolver, and frankly, I don't believe it.

I had one a bunch of years ago that had the worst action of any revolver I have ever owned. Worst trigger pull. On top of that, the barrel was not screwed in properly, the front sight leaned over to one side. I eventually got rid of it.

A few years ago I bought another one. This one was much better, but it did have a void in the hammer casting right under the cam. It would have worn out the bolt pretty quickly. I had to do a lot of careful filing to smooth it out. Still have it, but I'm not terribly impressed with the quality.

That video has been around for a while. It has a lot of errors in it, particularly when they state the pressure the guns are proofed at.

I now have two Cimmaron/Uberti SA revolvers.

The model P-OM I posted about in my original thread and now the Bisley model with the custom stag grips that's pictured above.

Both revolvers fit, finish and actions are superb in every way, I'm still very impressed with these revolvers, especially for no more then they cost.

Over 95% of the loads shot in both revolvers are tier two loads and I've had no issues with them so far.
My current load for these revolvers is a 270 gr WFN bullet moving 1080 FPS from the 5.5 inch barrel Bisley.

By the way both of mine were ordered on line, sight unseen, until they arrived at my shop.

Picked one of these up a few months ago. They sure are accurate and fun to shoot. From what I understand, these are the choice of prop guns in Hollywood because they are the most faithful recreations.
