This incident adds a different twist on the old cliche of the “smoking gun”.
Seriously though I am wondering why absolutely no one at this party had a clue that this guys actions were intolerable. After all he discharged another muzzleloader two times prior to the fatal shot. Yes the guy who pulled the trigger is to blame, as well as being a world class idiot but what of the ignorance of the people who stood by and remained?

How many intelligent people hang out with idiots? I mean, if these guys were that world-class stupid, they probably didn't have many cerebrally-endowed associates.
How many people do YOU know from those forced-association venues (like work, the BMV, mass-transit) whom you consider to be so mind-bogglingly dumb as to be a danger to themselves? A couple, right? Now, with how many of them do you party? Right...zero.
Same here. Anyone with enough sense to know that you don't shoot your friends also had enough sense to be nowhere near this gathering.
And so the dim-witted gravitate to each other like the last cheerios in the big bowl of life, and every now and then they manage to think of new and creative ways to select themselves out of the gene pool. Sad.
