Chronograph Recommendation

I got the Oehler 35p when they first came out and few years ago one of the wires for battery connect broke. I called and their still in business and they told me how to fix it and was pretty simple but it didn't turn on. I called and send it back and about wk after they got it, got call from them that everything is fixed and on it's way back to me. I ask how much and was told it was warranty fix. Guy told me they honor their warranty and it's in back of operating instruction I got with it as follows . Our customers are reasonable; if they shoot a screen accidentally smash a chronograph, they expect to pay for repairs. If something breaks, wears out or just dies, we fix it for free.

I've got my first Oehler 33 in 1988 and got a 35 a couple of years ago. Their customer service is World Class.

SARuger. let me know if you need some extra sky screens or a start sensor, I am parting my old one out on ebay.

I haven't shot mine yet...........but I'm being careful. It seems when I show up at the range, everybody wants to shoot through it and see what they get. I have been letting them so far.

Its funny, the muzzle blast blows the screens off sometimes and i have to call cold range to fix it, kind of annoying to me and everyone else.

I notice your screen name, are you in VA?

Would suggest if others want to see what their velocity is, you do the shooting not them. I had a chrony it was shot but not by me.

SA, most of us end up shooting one sooner or later. I am up north near Leesburg, though I used to live in Roanoke and we are hoping to move back down the valley as soon as we can find a suitable place, but that is proving difficult.

I tried quoting but don't see that as an option.

Magneto Speed Chronograph

I believe it was in the first episode of the new series, "Shooter," that I saw one of these on the end of Swagger's rifle. "Huh," I thought, "it's a chronograph." I kind of forgot about it after watching the episode, and then saw a report on one in a B.P.C.R. forum. It certainly was a chronograph on Swagger's rifle, and it was a Magneto Speed chronograph, and the first one I ever saw.

The report on the use of the Mag Speed in the B.P.C.R. forum gave it a very good rating, even after the fouling from a fair number of shots out of a 45/70 covered the thing. Using black powder and cast bullets, it didn't fail in its readings after all of that muzzle blast. It worked great, according to the shooter's (not Swagger's...) report. I can't help but think that the if the Magneto Speed Chrony still works fine after being coated with B.P. fouling, it probably works really great with any propellant spitting a pill out of a barrel.

The fellow shooting the 45/70 bought the "Sporter" version of the Mag Speed, which is about half the price of the offered kit shown earlier in this thread from Midway. I didn't look, but I'll bet Larry P. sells the "Sporter" version too. I just may get one.

What I really like about this chronograph is that you don't need a bench set-up with it. You can install the unit, and use it any way you need to get your readings; offhand, kneeling or prone shooting can be done anywhere with the digital read-out unit in your pocket. Seems pretty handy. Looks like it's been around for a little while, too. I'm surprised I had to watch a T.V. episode to see the thing for the first time.

It's nice up there but I will stay in Roanoke ;-)

To quote. Copy/paste then highlight the quotation, then push the small icon on the thread toolbar that looks a cartoon text bubble. That turns the highlighted area into a quote.

I have had the Competition Electronics Prochono Digital Chronograph for about a year and a half. I also owned a Shooting F1 Chrony but I shot it in the face . The Prochrono is way less finicky, doesn't have those annoying 3 piece shades, and looks way better. it is built pretty tough too because I shot one of the guide rods with a 9mm, hit it so dead center that the guide rod bent and the bullet started to fragment but the chronograph still worked fine and had no visible fractures. Also, get the bluetooth attachment, it is a very convenient accessory and eliminates the need for paper or printing, and the app that comes with it does all the calculations for you and stores all shot groups and data on your phone.

I glued my sky screen together so I only have 3 parts to fly off!

Got a plastic box to carry it all in so I don't have to fold it up.

No one but myself and my brother shoots over it.

Mostly if I have mine there he has me do the shooting.
