Choice of Handguns?

Keltyke and Firepower,

Yes, I will let you know what I decide on for my CCW. Still researching....if I had to decide today I would go with the Glock 27. My FFL is also a Gunsmith and he recommends the Glock line too.....he also says the Springfield line is superior. We'll see.

In my Concealed Carry class yesterday, the instructor was awesome. He made it very interesting and for a 10 hour class (including range qual) their was never a dull moment!

Smaug,

Funny you should mention the Walther PPS. It is one I am considering for my CCW. I like the "thinness" and concealability of the weapon. My FFL says they are superior weapons in construction and design! Problem is I can not find anyone who has one to get an evaluation! As far as I can tell just doing research on the internet, the PPS is definitely superior. Also costs around $200 more than a Glock 27.

Hi Keller,

Just wanted to throw in my .02 cents. My first handgun was the mid-size Glock 23. I really like the 40 S&W... and IMHO you cant beat the quality and price of a Glock.

I also wanted to suggest the Sig P239 DAK. I have one in 9mm and cant say enough about it. It's about the same length as my Glock 23 but the Sig is a bit thinner in the grip, making it easier to conceal. Something to consider.

With the suggestions youve already received I dont think you can go wrong regardless of what you pick!

I'm gonna play devil's advocate for a minute.

That's what he sells, I'm sure. Can he get the Steyrs? A lot of FFLs won't or don't bother with them. Ask him, if you decide on the Steyr, will he order it? Will he meet online store prices on it? If the answer is hesitant or a definite "no", then you will know one big reason he's recommending the others.

Yes, I'm a big Steyr fan, but I also know stores push what they sell and/or make a nice profit on. That's just the way it is.

I carry about 95% of the time. Winter I carry a Smith J Frame (model 37 or 60) with Crimson Trace in an ankle holster and in the summer a Colt Pony in a pocket holster. I prefer Stainless or Aluminum frame guns.
Good Luck
Pop

Keltyke,

Point well taken. I will check into the Steyr line. Admittedly, I know nothing about them. I will ask my FFL guy if he can get Steyr firearms. Stay tuned on this thread and I'll let you know.

Thanks.
