I've been looking at picking up a full size semi-auto for quite some time now. I've been researching as best as I possibly can, and shooting as many guns as I can get my filthy mits on. I've sort of settled on these three models.

CZ 75b Mil
CZ 40b
IMI Baby Eagle

A local shop has these three for about the same price so difference in price is not an issue. I also love the feel of each of these guns so that is also not an issue. Here are some of the pros and cons I have concluded after brief examiniations of each gun.

CZ 75b Mil
Pros:

Feels good
Hi-caps available
Shoots economical 9mmP
Durable
Accurate
Decient Aftermarket
Posters have those very attractive girls ;)

Cons:

Factory Hi-caps are expensive!
Possible problem with finding parts?

CZ 40b
Pros:

1911 Style grip
.40 More power than 9mm
G&A Gun of the Year Candidate
Hi-caps available and cheap! (EAA .40/.41 12 rnders)

Cons:

Limited Production Run
Hard to find parts
Weak aftermarket
Creepy SA trigger feel
Alloy frame (longevity issue?)

IMI Baby Eagle
Pros:

Looks super sexy!
Hi-caps available and cheap (16 rnds).
Ambi controls.
Has Safety/Decocker

Cons:

Weak aftermarket.
(I couldn't find much about this one, but its so sexy!)

One thing I didn't research is IMI's vs. CZ's warrentee. Thanks for your help.

Bought two of them, handled the third. The only ones in my safe are the 75s.

If you want a .40, get a 75 in .40. Whichever way you go, the IMI mags interchange with the CZ 75.

I have the CZ75B Military and love it. Has outstanding accuracy and is known for their quality and durability. I don't think scarcity of parts is a problem, with how well CZ USA is doing.

Factory hi-caps for the Cz75 are expensive? Youve got to be kidding! You must not own a Glock, or (heaven forbid) an HKP7M13:D

I have the CZ-75B Mil, and the Baby Eagle. Even though they are both HP based, there are some slight differences. The Eagle is a bit slimmer than the CZ-75, and uses polygonal rifling. Most who have shot both of my pistols side by side, give the Eagle a slight nod in comfort and accuracy.

Another thing to consider. The CZ-75B does not have a decocker. If you wish to carry one in the pipe, you will either have to carry it "cocked & locked", or manually drop the hammer on a live round (NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!!) The Eagle does have a decocker, so it can be safely carried with a round in the chamber and the hammer down. Just depends on your preference of carry.

One more thing which you've already touched on - THE EAGLE IS WAY SEXY!

"Drop the hammer on a live round" sounds much more dangerous than actually doing it. I "lower the hammer manually on a live round" for 25 years, as millions of hndgun owners in the world.
I never read/heard anything about anybody suffering in any way from doing it...Decocker is for dudes with shaky hands or damaged nervous system, in other words, for sick people.

Now on direct subject of topic - CZ 75 rules, and magazines are
not expensive.

CZ75B. Just got one and love it. Try CDNNInvestents for mags. 15 rd. Promags for $15 each, $9 shippng no matter how many you buy. Factory mags were much more expensive. There is a post on the czforum discussing mags. Promags seem to work well in the 75B's, not the 75's. Actually someone from TFL made one of the replies.

Uh, Oris, that was totally uncalled for.

Daedalus,
This post proves that there are many fans of the CZ-75, as there should be, since it's a great pistol. In fact, they even seem to be "Glock" like in their enthusiasm. But, I wonder how many of those recommending the CZ, have ever shot an Eagle, let alone, shot the two pistols head to head. Most who have shot the two of mine head to head give a slight nod to the Eagle. It sure is easy giving advice when you only know one side of the story.

Which pistol will you like better? That's something that you have to decide for yourself, instead of making it a popularity contest. Pick them both up, grip them, see how they point for you. Which one is most comfortable? Do you feel safer with a decocker, or is that a mute point? Check around at ranges and with shooters you know to see if you can borrow both to shoot head to head. Only then can YOU decide which pistol is best for YOU. Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with either one. Good luck.

Mechanical advantages are nice and all, but can you really go wrong with sexy?

CZ Choices-?

I'll go with the CZ-75 given the choices but the Beretta Elite is hands down a better 9mm! Parts availability/accuracy/hicaps/reliabilaty hmm, dovetail sights front and rear makes nite sight installation easy. Roy

Ahem. In a way, I agree. Some people shouldn't fool (or try to fool) themselves that they're still young pups and/or in the peak of health. I don't mind at all the inference that age and/or something else totally beyond my control impairs my ability. *shrug* It's a fact of life. Age gets all of us at some point. there's also a number of times that ole uncle Arthur (as in arth-ur-itis) visits and I can't make a fist, type or work a hammer safely. I also never lower the hammer of my CZ75b on a live round. It's a bit more blunt to see it put that way than I'd like, but,,,factually, it can be correct. If you're 8, 18, 28, or 88 and keep yourself in the peak of health, more power to ya. I've lived a life of excess, and while I've had no regrets, I understand exactly how I got to where my fat ole carcus is today.

Personally, I would reject all three. None of them are what I would call a good gun. However, if that is all you have to choose from, get the CZ75. It's the best of the lot.

cz75

You should be able to find factory CZ75 magazines at $35-$40. Other hi-caps are more than twice the price. Parts aren't a problem ....... CZ-USA offers fairly good support. For the money, the CZ75 is a great value.

Gusgus,

Of course, nothing personal.

Just to say that one handgun is "better" than the other because it has a decocker is questionable. Revolvers do not have decockers, but nobody says that revolvers are not as good as pistols because of this particular reason. Lever action type rifles and shotguns with hammers do not have decockers. Just about any old enough pistols do not have decockers. What I'm saying is that decocker, at least for me, adds absolutely nothing in value
when comparing different pistols. Just my strictly personal opinion.

But logically, why someone needs a decocker? Simple reason -
it helps to prevent an accident if hammer is lowered incorrectly.
When the hammer is lowered incorrectly? Only when person either has no idea how to operate firearm and/or has no ability to control/coordinate certain moves necessary to lower the hammer, which usually is a case with bad nerves or shaky hands or being under heavy influence.

I can only vote for the only one i`ve seen or ever shot of the 3,and that is the cz75b in 9mm,i bought this pistol last week, along with a fobus holster, then just sent off today for another hi-cap(cost 40 bucks). So far i`ve shot 175 rds in a single setting of different types of rounds(ball,hp,hp+p)great pistol, love the accuracy, speed of followup shots,i plan on shootin it again today,so far i`m really impressed with it ,Thanks for the wonderful post on all of the forums concerning this pistol.

Well, I made the decision.

I went with the CZ 75b. Let me take you through my thought process while I was standing at the counter. I first looked at the CZ40. Handled it, and decided that it didn't point or well as nice as a standard 1911 frame. That ruled it out right there. So now I was down to two. Looking in the glass case, I saw that they had 2 CZ75Bs, 2 Jerichos, and 1 Baby Eagle. One of the Jerichos was compact and the other was full sized. The baby eagle was semi-compact. The Eagle felt much better than the other two, so I dismissed the Jerichos. So now I was looking at 2 CZ75Bs, and the Semi-Compact Baby Eagle. While playing around with the CZs, I found that one had a much smoother trigger. I had the guy put the one with the gritty trigger back. I asked him how much I could get each for, and the prices were exact. Well that certainly made my desision easier! My heart was thumping Eagle and my brain was screaming CZ. So I wised up and desided to check the markings on the CZ. Looking at the slide I saw the Oakhurst, CA stamp. I figured that the jerks had taken the 15 rounder from it. Grr. I had the guy who was helping me double check and see what was up. Apparently I was wrong. It did come with the hi-cap as well as the 10 rounder. To compare I asked what the Eagle came with. Just one 10 rounder. Also on further examination, the Eagle didn't have the decocker I thought it did. I think that right there made my desision. I was getting that much more with the CZ than with the Eagle. I haven't shot the CZ yet. That will probably happen this Sunday. I'll keep you guys posted on how I like it.
