Edit..Target is retracted from the list in my previous post and I apologize for the mistake. I posted them because of an e-mail I had received from an aunt who was guilty (as I am) for not researching the lie before stateing it as fact.
Again, my apologies.B.

2rugers, the Target story has proven to be false and misinterpreted. I believe the story of what really happened can be found at snopes.com or something. Another TFL member posted the link here someplace.

Boy you edited your post fast.

In Florida...

...there does not seem to be any particular firearm-related law prohibiting carrying on private property. It looks, from what I can see, like reliance is made on trespassing law. In other words, if the property owner or his authorized agent determines you are carrying and asks you to leave, you must. But you haven't committed a crime until you refuse to leave.

I would guess that would mean that a business could post a sign on the door saying they don't allow firearms and that plus your presence with a concealed weapon could be construed as tresspassing. So, just in case that's the case, I am starting to develop the habit of looking for such signs when entering businesses.

However, some businesses have so many signs that you could probably argue that you didn't notice the sign, so long as you left after being asked.

I have never noticed a sign. But if I do, I won't go inside unless I absolutely have to, in which case I'll go unarmed. Then, if possible, I'll try to find another source of what I went in for. But as for the bank and the post office, well, luckily I don't go to either place a lot.

I think any business or private home should have the option to allow carry or not to allow.
However its a personal choice for everyone to disarm and enter or go to another business.
I choose to go elsewhere thats my right' just as its their right to display their sign.
They choose not to allow me to carry on their premises. I choose not to trade with anyone who does'nt allow me to carry on their premises.

I skipped down to the bottom of the stack so this might have already been answered but....how are they going to know if you're carrying? If the gun is concealed then what's the deal? I doubt if they're gonna ask and if you don't tell them or walk around with it bouncing around then no big deal. And if you have to use the gun for self defense or defense of others then they just may well be greatful you were there.

ok, next obvious question is, for Texas, if the 30.06 sign is posted, you carry into the business anyway (undetected) then you are faced with a situation that requires you draw and perhaps fire your weapon, what are the legal ramifications (i know, your life is more important, but...)

oh, to answer the original question, I avoid posted businesses

Handy--your quote:

"But boycotting out of principle is another matter when you want someone to waive one of their rights so you can exercise YOUR priveledge on their property."

Just out of curiosity, you do understand the difference between a Constitutionally defined (not granted) "right" and a "priveledge", right? Of course, depending on where you live, this distinction is sometimes lost (unfortunately).

And your further statement,
"Do those of you with children boycott bars with "No minors allowed" signs, out of principle? Who are they to say where you can take YOUR child? "

is specious in certain locales, where children are prohibited in bars, period, by law.

Myself, I prefer an establishment without ill-behaved, unsupervised brats. But that's just grumpy old me...who was raised to believe that children should be seen and not heard. :)

The only place I've seen a sign like that here is at the Hospital downtown Seattle...after hours. During regular business hours there is no sign. After hours there is a metal detector.

But, I really haven't seen any business around here posting signs like that. And do they have a right to do so? I suppose it's their store so they can choose who they are going to sell to. Just like if you were visiting someones home and they ask you not to carry on their property, they have the freedom to restrict clientele to all people who do not carry a gun.

20cows,
I hope you are joking because your going onto Federal property all of which is off limits to firearms IIRC.

Bob

Targets in Indy do not have any 'no gun' signs. Come to think of it, I haven't seen signs anywhere I've been in Indy.
But I shop at Target, as they seem to have less stuff made in China, and never at Walmart. Although I may have to break down and start getting .45 ammo there.

I Wonder

Some folks here seem to have strong feeling about places that don't allow CCW access. Some folks here seem to boycott such establishments. I believe that boycotting is a great form of protest.

How many of you boycotters go to movies on the weekend?

Shouldn't any product coming from Hollywood be boycotted too?

I was just wondering.
