CHL certification test, which gun should i use

Assuming you will pass with either handgun, do it least expensive. You don't have to be super fast or super accurate for the CHL qual. If you want to test yourself that way, do IPSC or IDPA or Steel Challenge matches.

With the Beretta, only the first of the shots will be DA. Practice with dummy rounds or snap caps so you get the smooth DA pull.

I took or I should say started my carry class with my FNP 45. The instructor saw it had a decocker and safety so he wanted me to decock it and put it on safe after each time I fired it then when I drew it again click it off safe and fire. This was the first time I ever did any shooting like that with this gun since it was new and I had only fired it maybe three times. I had so much time to do each round I was often done and waiting for others to finish several seconds early yet still got an almost perfect score. You will be surprised how little time it takes you to make your shots. The time you are given is more then enough to draw, get on target, make your shots and sometimes even reload. At least twice I pulled the trigger on an empty chamber a couple times and would still have plenty of time. If I can do it I dare say anyone that can handle their firearm OK can do it. We had a woman in the class taking it with a revolver which required her to reload one or two times per round and she did fine.

In the videos, it looks like you're shooting the PX4 just a little better. See if you can spend some time getting used to the DA-SA transition. If you pick it up and feel comfortable enough with it, I'd use that. You might even save a buck or two on ammo.

and i have never shot my PX4 Double action, which gun do you recommend i use to qualify for the test.

I've already answered, but will add this. If you've never shot the PX4 double-action then you probably shouldn't carry it and therefore shouldn't test with it. Get proficient with it and then use it the next time you have to qualify.

I say that, but have never qualified with my normal carry gun. If I used my Chief's Special for qualifying it would prevent me from carrying any of my autos.

i think i'll go to the range this weekend and shoot my PX4 in DA mode. i moved out to 15 yards last weekend, and i did significantly better (or less worse) with my px4 than my glock. I practice dry firing my PX4 in DA mode all the time.

I think dry fire practice will help you more than anything, as other members have stated.

Just tape a target on your wall. Also get one of those anti-stress toys (squeeze toys), and do that while you're at work, or just sitting around watching TV.

Just don't tire yourself out too much - if your hands get tired or shakey, take a break.
