CHL and a very small woman

SwampYankee - I thought the wallet holsters where you can fire the weapon from inside the holster were considered AOW's and had to be taxed/licensed as such. http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49909

Couzin: That old post you linked is total bogus, none of those guys had any idea what they were talking about. As 2cooltoolz points out, if the gun is concealed in a way that it can be fired while concealed and still not identified, then it is an AOW. Here is a link to one of the original NAA wallets for sale on Auction Arms:

The wallet I posted is not a NFA Class III item because you can completely see the slide- that is, if someone looked at it they would know it was a gun. ATF made a ruling on this in 2000 and it is below:

My wife refuses to modify her attire to accomodate concealed carry.
She usually runs errands with nothing immediately available.
If she is with me, I can understand why she wouldn't feel the need. ;)

If the urge to carry ever strikes her, she straps on a Desantis fanny pack with her Kahr P9. I don't think she gives a crap if people think there is a pistol in the fanny pack or not.

I've bought her a Smartcarry and a clip on Kydex holster for the P9, but those items require clothing modification.

A Beretta Bobcat 21A would work in 25acp or 22lr, but my 21A 22 is not 100% reliable but it gets better the more I shoot it, close to 98+% (Before about 90-%), so I think they need to be broken in just like a million dollar Kimber (only 4 or 5 hundred rounds of 45s).

I'd carry it if I didn't have a S&W J-frame in a NY minute.

Wrothgar,

I've not tried ankle carry, but I hear it's an ergonomic nightmare. It works for some people, though; I learned that one older guy I knew while growing up had ankle carried a big Charter Arms Bulldog the whole time I knew him. I'd suggest mocking something up for her to try carrying for a few days, like an ankle weight or a drugstore bandage with a weighted wallet wrapped in it. If she can stand that, take her shopping for an ankle holster.

One of my relatives is about your wife's size (0). I can't picture her carrying a gun anywhere without it printing. I'm a skinny man (size small), and I have luck using one of those tanktops with a built-in shoulder holster. The draw is slow, but nobody seems any the wiser that I'm packing.

An ankle is a terrible place to carry a gun you can't get to.
Again, Keltec P32 with belt clip. Buy her a purse with a holster in it, too.

It really doesn't sound like she wants to actually carry. It can be very difficult for petite women, without making any wardrobe modifications and such. If she hasn't had any formal self defense training, maybe you should see about getting her into something like Krav Maga or Judo. Situational awareness is very important, and will also decrease the likelihood of her being caught from behind.

Don't underestimate her. Bonnie Parker of Bonnie ,& Clyde did pretty well and she was tiny. I'm looking at an add in American Handgunner July/Aug 2008 on pg.84. There isa set up LAW concealment systems Inc. that carries by the kidney. Their phone # is 425-985-4952 and fax 425-788-4915. They are in Issaquah, WA 98027 email: lawconceal@aol.com Good Luck, Lyle

it's nice to want

My first wife was 4'10" and 90lb.
My second wife is 5'6" and a (muscular) 140lb.

Both got professional-grade 'cop-chick' holster-purses (girl cousin in LE advised which brands, the ones with dedicated holsters and steel shoulder-straps).
Both also use fanny packs (so do I).

Ankle carry is for your third gun.......

Wrothgar, has your wife actually shot anything substantial through a Ruger LCR? I know the guys seems to like it but as a small woman, and I expect a small hand, I'd make sure she can train on it. I probably have a larger hand than her and I couldn't take. It's relegated to my BUG.

all I have to add

my Ex sister in law used to carry a compact .45 in a shoulder holster under her blouse, she said she would just rip her blouse open to get to it, (I figured that would be a good distraction to give her time to get on target) she was a lot bigger than your wife, so maybe she should try that.
