CHL and a very small woman

So, I tried posting this in the gear forum, and no one has responded within 24 hours - time for a move!

My wife is 5 feet tall and weighs 100 pounds soaking wet (size 0 petite). She wants to conceal carry as I do. However, she does not want to carry inside the waist on a belt like I do with my Crossbreed because she never wears a belt. She doesn't want to carry in her purse (smart girl). She wants to carry around her ankle. Also, she has this imaginative idea of carrying it high on the back of her shoulder where you would have to reach behind your neck to carry it (like you were scratching your shoulder blade). I think ankle carrying is a horrible idea, it is better than nothing, I suppose. I showed her the smart carry, which she didn't care for. I've shown her cornered cat, and it didn't help any. Any ideas? Ignore the gun type for now, she's considering several types (Ruger LCR or LCP, mostly).

Hmmmm a Keltec P32 will be even thinner, have more capacity, and a bit less recoil. That said- my girlfriend sometimes pockets an LCP. There aren't too many good ways of concealing a weapon when you're built like that. My girlfriend is about 110lbs and has a horrible time trying to carry some days. Good luck.

I'm a big old fat guy (well, 200lbs and 5'8" which makes me an average 21st century American) but I really like the Kel Tec 32 in a pocket holster. It's been 20 years since I dated a size 0 girl so I can't remember how big her pockets were but there are all kinds of options for back pocket carry. Right now Im using a DeSantis Nemesis but I am really interested in the Wallet Holster:

I carry it with Buffalo Bore .32's and have had no problems. When feasible, I carry a S&W 4053 but the Kel Tec is a tiny little gun and very comfortable.

Wrothgar,

Taurus TCP works very well for me. And having an actual stainless slde helps with sweat.

And with an Apache ankle rig the TCP is very light and easy to walk normal.

Oh, and another one is the Bersa CC .380. Bigger than the TCP but much easier to hit with.

She does not wear a belt? Ok, just have her stich some velco where she wants to wear the holster and then stich/glue the other side of the velcro to the holster that would meet the velcro inside the pants.

The only fly in the ointment is if she does not wear the holster, that velcro itches alot.

I'm not saying the Crossbreed is right for her, but if she wants to carry she may have to add more to her wardrobe than a gun.

Has she poked around at The Cornered Cat website yet? I understand there is plenty of good advice there.

1: Showed her around cornered cat, it didn't help.

2: IWB, in any capacity, is out of the question

3: Pocket carry, in any capacity, is out of the question - it would print like no one's business. I think you're underestimating her tininess, which is partly why I want her to carry.

4: This seems to be the only thing that she really liked. However, we couldn't afford to buy her one for every day, but she probably wouldn't be carrying every day (that's what I'm for). Plus, you could probably "recycle them" since there would be underwear worn underneath.

5: How practical is ankle carry? If someone is holding you up, you'd have to be pretty quick to get it out of your ankle.

The underwear holster you linked to IS waistband carry, with a lot of extra baggage. Again, if she likes that gimmick, a P32 with belt clip will completely conceal the gun-while making it easily accessible.

The belt clip works. Carried a P32 this way for over a year, and at first I was skeptical. It performed much better than expected. Another thought I had was maybe if there's enough, ahem, chest area to hide something...;)

LCR in a purse that has a flap holster compartmnent in the side end where she can reach the gun at a moments notice if needed.

Ankle carry is useless if someone grabs her from behind.

At least with the purse carry,.she could even have her hand on the LCR when she walks out to her car at night.

124 +p Gold Dots in that LCR and some practice too.

Nice to have a wife that realizes she needs to protect herself.

You ( and the police) can't be everywhere she is all the time.

Great luck to you both on getting her set up right.

Not a criminal scientist, but it seems that the purse is the first, and easiest, target of scumbags.

I think ankle carry is useless period, unless you're a 22 year old karate master. Try it under stress sometime. I have. Thank god my partner (wife) was more prepared.

Yeah, but someone who snatches a purse is there to snatch a purse- not rape, kill or maim. The purse may be snatched, along with the gun, but it is unlikely they are then going to stick around to do a follow up.

If grabbed from behind

You won't come up with any method that works if the requirement has to be:

It will work when a very small woman is grabbed from behind by a thug.

You and spouse are going to have to accept that CCW does not mean you cannot ever be be hurt.
It also offers an option if/when told:
Quote -- walk into that abandoned building over there -- Unquote.

When you are together -- the thug(s) will be focused on you as the traditional male threat -- that is when she should be carrying.
Not to mention, judge/jury very understanding about 100 pound woman saying "I didn't have any choice but to shoot".

The AOW's are the type which conceal a handgun. The one he linked didn't actually disguise that it contains a firearm.
The AOW type:

I am not sure for one for a gun as far as the shoulder type holster that is a behind the neck. I have seen a few that were like that for knives. Doc Holiday had a place on his shoulder rig for a Tgrip skinning knife.
My girlfriend is pretty small too. She pulls off concealing a Bersa Thunder 9mm UC in a pant suit with the vest. This is ok when she is working in the office. Outside it is just miserably hot. She has a purse for the Bersa at times when she is wearing clothing that would make concealment impossible. When she purse carries she does carry a back up on body. A P64 9mm Mak. (Walther PPK clone) She carries it IWB with a belly band that her mom made for her usuing custom fit for the gun. The material for the band itself is kinda like fishnet with a piece of neoprene backing where the holster is to keep sweat off of it.
Note I have the same type of band I bought at a gunsshow that I carry my G26 in. Way cooler in the heat than the ones made of the heavy material.

Ruger LCR..........no slide to pull back, no need to remember if there is one in the chamber or not, no safety to disengage, just pull the trigger. And the dependability of a revolver made by Ruger.

For a woman, the best and lightest carry firearm there is in my opinion.

I've been using a Clipdraw with my Kahr for over a year now without issues. Previously used the factory clip on my P11. No need for a belt, just slide it in being mindful of the trigger.
