Children arrested for playing in a tree

Eh, the French ain't so bad. Sure they seem uppity but not as much as the English. They just ooze snobbery. Almost every single one I've met online or in real life comes off as self-important and better than us. To contrast most French people I've met tend to be the opposite, mostly polite and the ones I've met in America really like our country. Maybe we should be Anti-British than Anti-French?

Just like in the book 1984!!

 -- That's exactly what I find so incredibly baffling!

It actually seems as though the British went to that book, took careful notice of all the things that made that society terrible and totalitarian, and said, "Hey, um, let's DO this!"

What on earth explains the fact that British society is following "1984" like an owner's manual??

It's like they're enthusiastic for turning their country into a twin of Oceania.
Can it be that they simply read the book and failed to see that Oceania was being held up as a BAD place?!?!?!?!

Even though I live in what I like to call "The Peoples Republik of Illinois", I still breathe a sigh of relief when I see crap like that going on in other countries. So glad to be an American! Thank the lord that I am not in any other country!

It's not only England, or France or even Scotland. It's the whole of Europe ... and more. Why would anyone want to be more like the Europeans? That really dumbfounds me. I don't remember when it happened, but I do remember that at some point I started noticing comments on the news like, "But Europe does it!" or the opposite. "Europe doesn't allow that!" Go figure.

Just a thought.

"But Europe does it!" or the opposite. "Europe doesn't allow that!" Go figure.

If u think about it, it figures perfectly. If the general media is overwhelmingly liberal and tends toward socialist ideologies, then references to European demagoguery would become commonplace.

Curiosity yields evolution...satiety yields extinction.

Orwell

I see this type of incident in the context of uniform policing policies which are being adopted by many Western countries especially the "Coalition of the Willing". It's all about keeping the citizenry scared. Demonising children is one part and decriminalising true criminal behaviour is another. The parrallels to Orwell and 1984 are textbook. If the public feels threatened, they will accept more and more onerous control until you can't step out of your front door without being observed by someone who is "protecting" you. Where will it all end? It's up to us.

Enland nothing....This is horrible for everyone. Im not going to say what i feel in fear of backlash!!!!!!!!!!!....Oh my Oh my..

I remembered something...

in the book 1984, they state that they can't remember when the totalitarianism started. Which implies that they slowly gave up their rights until it was too late.

History, in 1984, was constantly being doctored by the Party, which had personnel combing through old files, newspapers, books, etc. and removing anything that was not in keeping with current party doctrine.

That, as I recall, is part of why people could not remember when it started. The actual recording of what had happened in history had become blurred and mutable.
