Chiappa rhino blown out breech shield

I bought this chiappa rhino 2 inch model in April of 2011. I have shot it extensively but this happened while firing it last Friday (February 6). I was firing it when I noticed out of the corner of my eye a piece fall off of it.

Today (February 9), this is the response I received

Italian guns and 1 year warranty's. Good luck at least you don't have to pay for shipping across the Ocean. I got mine in 2011 for the collection when they first hit the market. Got OLIVE WOOD grips also. Never Have shot mine. Still a unique gun to look at.

I doubt they will fix that one in a hour. I was thinking of getting one someday but now I'm rethinking. Let us no the outcome if you send it back.

Holy Crud ! I've never seen anything like that before.

And Chiappa WON'T fix/ replace the gun....with THAT kind of failure ???!!! (even though it is technically out of the warranty period). I won't say what I am actually thinking.....but, to put it nicely, Chiappa can go someplace very warm, as far as I am concerned.

Overpriced junk - and I'm darn glad I think their guns are ugly and ridiculous. Now I know what they really are.....and the word begins with a "C".

Yeah, that will take more than a hour to fix. With that kind of failure, they should warranty it just because.

The imprints on the recoil shield are ..... pretty prominent.

My first thought was, "How hot are your loads, dude?"

..... or maybe it's a finish issue ..... the gun is what? less than 5 years old?

Unless you are feeding it a constant diet of Gunbeaters, those pics don't speak well of this gun's durability.

Some guns seem to be designed to shoot a 1/2 dozen times, and stuck in a drawer soemwhere until needed ...........

Remember it's labor PLUS parts! I'm not familiar with the Rhino but with any other gun that is part of the frame.

If so it would be cheaper to junk it and buy a new one.

The "breech shield" is shown as a separate part that slides into channels in the frame... or slides out when cracked in half. Take a few minutes to replace.

First...
Dang! Glad you weren't hurt.
AMEN!

Second...

Likewise!

Third...

Damn skippy!

Looking at that I would like to ask one question. Were you using +P ammo, hot handloads, or what?

Pelo,
Thanks for that public service message. I'm happy no one was injured.

Dear Chiappa, wow, with such a short warranty period, I will not be looking for a Chiappa.

I would think a company trying to build up sales and a following would be willing to be flexible on their warranty policy, especially in a case like this one which appears to be a design/material deficiency. A better approach would be "Send it in on our dime and let's see what happened." They could still say that there would be a charge to fix it.

Looks like the ugly tree fell on it. Oh wait they look like that when new. LOL. Glad you were not injured. But I kinda want to know the details of the ammo you were using. Seems like that gun got a steady diet of thumpers.
