CETME or FN FAL

Not sure if the Upper/Lower would fit correctly. There are "inch pattern" and "metric pattern" FALs. I believe that the DSAs are built on the original metric design, but I'm not sure about the other makers of FAL parts.

Hope soneone else has a more definitive answer for you.

can anyone else answer this for me? or do I have to drop 2 grand on a DSA Carbine? (which is not gonna happen)

I love the Cetme but Century Cetmes are known to be hit and miss about quality. They're also very picky against their magazines, expect to buy surplus magazines (10 or so for X amount) and only have a few work. The first thing I've been told to do with a Century Cetme is to disassemble and 'clean everything twice'. Then start working the action repeatedly to try and break everything in, then take it apart and clean the metal shavings out. (Just what I've heard)

DSA FALs are supposed to be great rifles and built on Metric pattern receivers, I believe DSA uses Type II receivers but has other options available. The only parts I would worry about fitting (uppers) would be Argentine parts since I've seen multiple times 'Argentine models only' on some FAL upper parts.

I would put the FAL above the CETME (though for the longest time I was gunning for a CETME) just because of parts availability and I don't like to gamble when it comes to buying a firearm. I've heard way too many stories about CAI Cetmes failing and the bolts locking up.

Not claiming to be an expert on the rifles, I'm a Mauser guy anyway. :D

An "inch pattern" lower will fit a "metric" upper and vice versa. Even barrel threads are the same except that the British inch pattern guns require a breeching washer.

I own a Century CETME, and I am one of the lucky ones...Mine has worked perfectly from the first shot. I have about 500rds through it now.
My CETME has no problem at all using the HK aluminum mags.
The simplicity of the CETME is appealing to me, and it shoots really well...Not too heavy, and I find it to be fairly compact. Accuracy is very good.
I have not shot it much lately due to the price of 7.62 Nato ammo. In fact, I was thinking of selling it.
I decided to take it to the range one more time, and it shot so well, I decided to keep it for a while more.
