CCW Weight, What's Your Limit?

With a good IWB holster and a pair of Perry Suspenders, most full-size service weapons can be carried with relative ease day in and day out. Current carry is the CZ75B.

SIG 229 is what, 2 lbs loaded?
Typical 1911 is around 2.5 lbs?
CZ-75 is also around 2.5 lbs.

So I guess I'd say somewhere around 2.5 lbs is about as heavy as I care to go. I remember getting tired of my old full sized 686 at about 2.75 lbs.

I used to only be good with ~30 ounces or so + ammo weight.

I've gotten a bit more tolerant in the last few months and now I can carry a true full weight gun all day with little or no discomfort. CZ-75 full size or 1911 or 4" Redhawk.

Usually mid-30's but possibly over 40oz with a coat. Weight isn't really an issue as long as it's comfortable and not poking me in the belly.

My CCW revolver is 24 oz. The revolver model I actually wanted, but couldn't find for sale anywhere back in March, is just under 26 oz. They're both solid steel, "stretch snubby" models with 3" barrels. After experience shooting them, I wouldn't want to have to handle anything smaller/lighter with .357 loads, although could probably manage .38 +P loads with a lighter gun.

After carrying for a couple of months, I also wouldn't want anything much larger/heavier for concealed carry. I don't think I could easily conceal it during the summers. For open carry, I wouldn't mind a full-sized steel revolver -- S&W K-Frame or L-Frame size.

ranting, thanks for posting pics! It's really not that bad, it's no where near as pursey as I imagined. Now if it were leather and all fancy like, I'd be calling you out. That thing has a manly tacticool look to it. Lots of people carrying some big guns. I like it.

Anything less than 48 oz., provided it is flat (not a large caliber double stack) and I have a good heavy belt/ quality holster.

No problem. It works fairly well for the purposes I use it for. It's not something I'd carry every day while wearing bdu's boots and a tac vest :p, but it works for weekend trips with the family and outdoors stuff. When you've got two kids, even once they get out of diapers, there's still a lot to carry to keep the peace :).

The diaper bag, a brillant place to stash the heater when you wanna carry off the body. Now I just need a kid...

:p

Well, there's two ways to look at that.........

If you want to look like a tough guy while carrying diapers for your kid, get one of these Maxpedition deals. Folks will think "he's probably packing".

If you want to look like a guy carrying his kid's diapers while really carrying a gun, get a pink or blue polka dotted diaper bag and stash a 1911 in it......

:)

i carry 2 different weapons.a glock 27 and a ruger p89.which differ in weight quite a bit from each other.i carry both in a galco with little issue.so i guess the weight factor isint a deal as much as conceal factor of a large framed weapon.
