CCW method for a woman

Kraig, I'm assuming she wears this under her dress and over stockings? Can you ask her how you keep it from chafing her legs? And I'm guessing she wears not form fitted dresses with the holster on the outside of the leg. I'm also guessing she's got legs on the thinner side. It does seem more accessible than an ankle carry.

Actually, that thigh carry system *does* look interesting, although I'd wear it over tap pants or bicycle shorts if it were me. Otherwise, it would chafe. Under skirts that are a-line or looser, and at least hip-length, it should be invisible, and a slit in the inner seam of an inset pocket would provide good access.

I could see wearing that when I had a dance dress on for a party. :-)

Under a skirt

A petticoat or ruffles can provide a lot of camouflage. But the chafing is a consideration, as well as how the weight of (even one as light as the LCR) a gun can change your gait.

Men have to "dress around the gun", too. So, you will find a few slight alterations (or not-so-slight) to your wardrobe will help.

Welcome, and thanks for asking our advice.

Lost Sheep

Lost sheep, the gait change is a good point. I imagine I'll be going through some adjustments as I carry concealed anyway, beyond just changes in gait. The bike shorts under a dress are a good idea. Let me know if you try it Sakeneko. I'll check my closet for a ...uh...petticoat..but I'm pretty sure I won't be wearing one of those. I told that to a female friend at dinner and she snorted lychee tea through her nose she laughed so hard ;) I think it's a generational thing sir, but younger woman don't use that term anymore. I do thank you for your advice though. The point was that there should be some material between my leg and the holster. Got it. ;)

Yes Ma'am, she wears it over stockings, it dosnt chat at all, but its got to be tight enough not to move, and yes she's abit on the scrawnie side. Ankle holsters and heels don't go well together.

I
'll get flamed for this I'm sure, but the Clipdraw has worked very well for me over the years. I had the factory KelTec one on my P11, then put one on my Kahr K9. No belt needed, heck...I even used it with swim trunks once (don't ask).

I would advise all to be cautious when using a "clipdraw" for concealed carry. My step-son just finished with a gigantic hassle in Ohio regarding the use of the clipdraw on his glock. Just be sure the cplidraw meets your state's description of "a holster".

Hmmm, just what I need. Another gun forum. Ok, I registered but the link didn't take me to the thread. Do you remember the name of the thread?

If you look at the different threads provided by the link several are related to female CCW. :)

Women: firearm carry...

In general, I would avoid carrying weapons in purses, cases, bags, etc.
There are a few posts here on TFL about the subject. For concealment, I'd get a DeSantis pocket holster(Super-Fly or Nemnesis brands) or maybe a kydex type paddle holster like those made by Galco, Fobus-USA, Desantis or Bianchi-Intl.
Depending on your size, shape, height, etc a secure compact holster should serve you well. If fashion or clothing designs are a major issue you can also pack a well made shoulder rig like the Galco Miami Classic II Bianchi or Aker.

You may also want to get a few Bianchi Speed Strips or Tuff Products Quik Strips for spare rounds. ;)
I read a few years ago of a J-frame revolver owner/concealed permit holder who used a Altoids case for the .38/.357 strips.

Someone else mentioned them, but I'd like to reiterate about the Bianchi-there might be other makers too-speed strips. They'll hold six rounds very flat, and disappear in a pants or jacket pocket. They do take a little practice to get used using them, but I really liked them for when I carried in the summer in TX, and couldn't wear a lot of layers. And I might buy one of those thigh holsters for myself, don't laugh, I got an idea!

Rimfire, please post pics!:) Or at least let me know if you like it. I'm holding off on that one but I did get an ankle holster, a belly band and a basic IWB holster, along with a carry purse. Cabela's has a generous return policy. Gotta wait two weeks but I still have other stuff to work on anyway. I'm thinking appendix carry IWB will be good with a longer t-shirt. I don't want to be reaching around all over the place. Down the front of my shirt (with belly band/bra carry) or right in front seems like where I'll want to carry. We'll see.

Empathy Belly? Why on earth is that necessary? Why does it exist? Gah. My disturb-o-meter for the evening has been filled.

Now that Nevada Leather rig ... that's what I'm talkin' about.

:D FreakGasolineFight, if only you knew how funny I found your comment. I'll decline to explain but it was funny  I have to say I've been largely impressed by the restraint everyone has displayed on this thread. Guys and girls, playing nice together, talking about guns. It warms my heart. I can't enter any other forum without some kind of overtly sexual solicitation so my hats off to everyone in the forum, moderators included.

Freak Gasoline Fight's post hit my giggle box too, but I'll explain as gently as I can why it was funny to me: the brief answer to his question is, "It's needed because you don't understand why it might be needed, that's why."

How's that funny? Because it's so darn ... circular!

(Don't know if Siggygirl had the same reaction or a different one, but that's why I grinned at his post.)

I had a different reaction but that one is funny too! FreakGasolineFight, I'll PM you with why I thought it was funny if you PROMISE not to tell ANYONE!!
