Insurance policies all vary by state...and by company...

Damage to your guns:
Many insurance policies have a limit on "theft" of no more than $ 1,500 for firearms ( some less, some more). But there are some companies that do not have the limitation on "Theft" which is good. If you had a fire in your home - then the guns are covered just like the rest of your belongings.

liability is different:
Most policies have either a $ 100,000 or a $ 300,000 limit for liability - and the best way to get more liability is to buy an "Umbrella policy" of anywhere from $ 1 Million to $5 Million ( you will have to increase the liability limits on your auto, boat, home policy - etc in order to qualify ) - but Umbrella policies are inexpensive from all the major companies. Most $ 1 Million umbrella policies are $ 150 - $ 200 a year / $ 5 Million might cost you $1,500 a year - but still an inexpensive investment to protect your assets.

Most "renters" and "homeowner's" policies have similar limitations on a limit for "theft" of firearms. Call your agent.

"Scheduling" your guns - is good / but you have to keep the list up to date / and values up to date. It'll cost you about $1.50 - $2 per $100 of value / or $45 - $ 60 annually for a $ 3,000 gun. If you schedule them - there typically is no deductible.

and the best way to get more liability is to buy an "Umbrella policy"

Many umbrella policies include deliberate acts.

They may pay for the bad guys medical bills, but may NOT provide you with any protection since your shooting was a deliberate act (even if done in self defense).

More info needed.

What are you seeking insurance for? Do you want to cover theft, loss from fire or personal liability?

Most home owner's policies limit coverage on firearms due to theft.

Most home owners policies cover loss from fire in the dwelling to the limits of the policy of personal property.

You may have some liability coverage under your home owner's policy for personal liability, or not. You must read the policy.

You can investigate getting a personal liability policy which covers you for any negligent acts up to a certain policy limit. If that amount in not what you would like you can get an umbrella policy that kicks in, in the event that you exceed the limits of the basic policy. You can even get a second umbrella that has a higher limit and only pay after the second policy is exhausted. Umbrella policies usually cost less than the basic policies.

Intentional acts may not be covered. legally some intentional acts are deemed negligent and other reckless and still others intentional; it all depends on many variables.

Many umbrella policies include deliberate acts.

Most insurance companies will tailor a policy rider to suit your needs, with specifically covered items and amounts, actions and causes, etc. It all depends on how much premium you want to pay.

And the more 'special' the coverage the more $$.

Trying to insure for deliberate acts is going to be VERY expensive.

Umbrella policies typically cost around $180 - $250 annually depending on a number of different factors. It extends your normal liability limits and coverage to include things such as libel, slander, humiliation, defamation of character, wrongful eviction, invasion of privacy, wrongful entry, malicious prosecution, or false arrest, detention, or imprisonment.

While they are excellent policies to have if you have assests to protect... I don't think they would be of much help if you were to shoot someone in self defense.
