CCW holders! How do you carry?

Fluffed and buffed Kel-tec P11 with belt clip in CMA carry. Everything else is just too darn heavy, and hell to get in and out of the car with. If I have to think about it, it will be lying somewhere else when I really need it. -7-

So you guys dont(sic) worry about accidental discharge?

An accidental discharge is caused by a mechanical failure. I carry modern, quality guns, so I don't worry one bit about an accidental discharge.

A negligent discharge is caused by some dummy having his finger on the trigger when it should not be. Far more common than the above. No, I don't worry about that, either.

Carrying an unloaded pistol is carrying a short, unwieldy club. If I wanted a short, unwieldy club, I would carry a carpenter's hammer. That would have saved me the cost of a CHL class ($150), CHL license ($140), and a carry gun (several thousand dollars so far, searching for the perfect pistol/revolver and accompanying speed loaders, magazines, holsters, belts, etc).

Always put one in the chamber. Under stress, something like remembering to rack the slide goes away real quick. Stress induced amnesia, as well as motor skill freeze up. Keep it simple, draw, point pull.

When carrying semi-auto, there is always a full mag and a round in the chamber of the Magnum Research Micro Eagle.

When carrying a wheel gun, there is always a full cylinder in the SP101, double action only.:D

Always carry the Sig with a full mag and a round chambered. No safety on the Sig but I don't worry about accidents. My brain is my first line of defense. Have carried this way for years with nary a problem.

As has been stated, when the need arises for me to pull it I don't want to think about racking the slide. Might be necessary in the movies but not for me.

Always carry a J frame in ankle holster in winter and a Pony in pocket holster in summer. Both guns just pull the trigger, no safety or anything else to worry about.

if your worried about the gun going off...start carrying it at home unloaded and cocked. Once you realize how hard it is for a gun to "accidently" discharge then you will feel more comfortable carrying full mag and chambered...which by the way is the only way I carry

Warning!!

Sebring Pop:

The Colt Pony is NOT SAFE TO CARRY IN YOUR POCKET!!! It is a FACT!! It is only safe to carry in my pocket!! Please, it is imperative that you contact me at once so that I can get you the name and address of my local FFL, and can effect a Safety Transfer of Extreme Assured Legitimacy!! We must prevent this ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN!!!

I can only reiterate what's already been stated:

1. If carrying for SD, always have one in the pipe.
2. Quality firearm and quality holster are required equipment to avoid AD.

I have standardized on double-action, no external safety for my carry weapons. Point and shoot simplicity when your life is on the line. Nothing wrong with other methods (SA cocked & locked, etc) but standardizing on one seems to make sense.

Dave85 - I applaud your willingness to help others stay safe. But the acronym suggests that you're promoting a government program. :D

1 in the pipe always....what good is an unloaded gun? If you want to keep an unloaded gun on your hip, just carry around a few bricks instead. You won't need a CCW and you'll be able to throw them at the BG just like you would an unloaded gun...just my 2 cents...no offense intended WELCOME!

Always one in the chamber.
Finger never touches the trigger unless I want to destroy something.

An unloaded firearm is nothing more than an expensive club.

I am of the opinion that folks that do not trust either themselves or the firearm to be loaded and ready to defend oneself, possibly should not carry a deadly weapon in public. If the question is generated by a feeling that "the gun might fail", then you need a different gun. If the question a generated by mistrust in your abilities, then maybe you aren't ready to assume the responsibility. Questions only you can answer.

always 1 in the pipe. my XD has a grip safety that will keep the slide from cycling and the trigger from firing the weapon unless it is fully depressed. and a trigger safety that keeps the trigger from accidentally firing the weapon unless the grip safety is depressed.

Mr. Will Potter,

Welcome to TFL. I carry a PX4 in 9mm converted to a G model (DA/SA decocker with no safety) with one round in the chamber. By the time I recognize a need for my firearm or have a chance to clear the holster, the threat may be too close to rack the slide.

Thanks for the heads up but I think I'll take my chances. Whats the worst that could happen, shoot my little toe off.
Wow I'm sorry I only bought one. I have had thoughts of not using it and let it gain in value. But I shoot it at the range and carry it all summer.
Thanks for the offer.

One in the chamber, always when carrying. As others have said, there likely wouldn't be time to rack the slide if you needed it.

That said, I don't usually top off my mags. I suppose it is a good habit to have, but I just never got into it. I like to have a place for that round when I un-chamber it to store the gun.

With revolvers, always a full cylinder.
