CCW holders! How do you carry?

I have been debating whether or not to carry my S&W Sigma .40 cal with a round in the chamber... or with only a full magazine.. As of right now I keep a full 14 round mag but no round chambered. How do you folks carry?

Also, I am new to these forums, so Hi!

Assuming you have a modern firearm, a round should be chambered and the mag topped off at all times.

Ps: Welcome.

If you have to use it, it's likely to be right now! Keep one in the pipe. Oh, and I hope you regularly practice drawing the pistol empty. Helps with toe retention.

So you guys dont worry about accidental discharge? I know that it's unlikely, but it's something I worry about. The sigma has no external safety.

Thanks for the replys

Mrwillpotter,

If you keep your finger (and other obstructions) off the trigger, you will not have an accidental discharge.

Mag full +1 in the chamber 24/7. Get a good holster that covers the trigger, keep your finger off the trigger till you intent to fire and use your brain. ;)

This ^.

Is the solution for this \/

accidental discharge?

Unless you are carrying some POS handgun with spotty safety record or a pre-transfer bar single action revolver, there is no need to worry about having a round in the chamber.

Welcome to TFL.:)

Unless you are doing a recreation of Deputy Barney Fife, always mag full and one in the tube.

Keep your finger off the trigger. That and a good holster will help prevent a ND (negligent discharge).

Welcome to TFL!

Another vote here for a full mag and one in the chamber. The Sigma is a modern gun designed with the intention that it be carried that way. Give yourself every advantage, and practice safety.

Well, I've been thoroughly convinced... In fact I just got back from an anniversary dinner with my wife... I chambered a round before I left.

Thanks again!

Either a 1911 with a round chambered, hammer cocked and safety engaged or an H&K P7M8 with a round chambered. I'm not going to count on having two hands available to rack the slide, or the time to do so, if I need my gun in an emergency.

One avoids a negligent discharge by always handling his gun properly, by getting good training and using a holster that covers the trigger guard.

Happy Anniversary, now secure that weapon and pay some attention to your bride before she hates TFL and all of us!!

I always call it condition +1
I have my mag filled to it's capacity of 17 and I always have the +1 in the chamber.
neither of my carry pieces have safeties.
