CCW for the Business man

I carry a Glock 26 in a smartcarry daily. My clothes fit and my shirts tucked and absolutely no visable clips or anything else. It is legal to carry where I do but I dont know my employers policy and in a small town its just better to lay low. I also find the works going out to eat and whatever because if you are being hugged though most wouldnt notice a hump at 3 o clock few are going to bump my smartcarry.

I use a Crossbread holster http://www.crossbreedholsters.com/ for my p238. And love it.

I don’t ware a gun to the office but I could with this holster. Now you can also go with an under the waistband holster.

Personally I do not think there is any gun that works in a pocket holster with business attire. Usually the close are to close cut.

In a place with high population and many people in the open or around you, for CONCIELED carry it wont get any better than a keltek p3at in .380 calibre. If you want something more powerful round per round but just as if not more slim, however fractions of an inch longer / straighter, a keltek pf9 will be in due order. If you still want more power it would be hard to beat a snubnose .357 from any variety of makers. I only mention the kelteks so much because ive seen and used them for concealed carry in high population centers and they provide more peice of mind than anything else i have tried, on every level. I will say that if you end up getting a PF9 you will neeeeeeeed to go to a local range and shoot it off a rest because the one i had was very off on sights. at 21 feet the bullet was impacting 1 foot low, but once i got it right, it was only an inch low from open sights, and the groupings were outstanding for such a small 9mm, from a rest, it actually put all 7 bullets into or touching a bullseye from 7 yards. the group was about 1 inch, probably less due to shooting error. I was simply resting the butt on a table, and its a very very small weapon. weighs less than a pound and is only about 5.5 inches in diameter and less than an inch wide. Reliability, i jammed 3 times in 50 shots. all 3 jams were the same bullet casing. it just failed to ignite. bad ammo.

Gotta say the P3AT or the PF9 are the best ive found for concealed carry. I had a Sigma .40 for concealed carry and it was good, but, wider than the other two and so are every single revolver i own or have owned, all are wider than my pf9 and the 3at i have seen. you can wear swimming trunks and no shirt, and throw a pf9 9mmluger semi automatic 7 shot clip + 1 into your pocket, and it would be extremely difficult for even the trained eye to spot it. pretty accurate, very reliable if you dont get hippy ammunition (95 grain flat tip non lead 9mm ammo) stay away from that crap.

my 2 cents ...

I would consider a Ruger LCP/Kelteck/Taurus TCP, and pocket carry. They are all light, .380 acp’s, and have no safeties other than the trigger – very much like your P232 (though I understand your love for Sigs).

Pocket carry isn’t always the fastest under stress, but if you see a potential problem arising, you can have your hand on your weapon without anyone thinking twice. Moreover, no one will ever notice if you have a good pocket holster. And - in my opinion, it’s WAY more comfortable! The lcp, tcp, etc, will all work well as pocket carry pistols.

On another note, have a look at 511’s clothing. They have undershirts that if you can handle their “tight” fit, conceal my 232 perfectly on me under a dress shirt! It doesn’t allow for a quick draw, but on my lanky frame well, like I said, it conceals my pistol very well.

If you are concerned about showing your weapon or are uncomfotable,Id like to suggest STONER HOLSTERS . Jeff and Jean are very nice people. Jeff has a shoulder holster with NO straps. Its an elastic material and is breathable. I personally do not have one but as soon as I can get over there I will have one, they are about 25 miles from me in Middletown,Ohio
He also makes custom made holsters in leather to fit your particular weapon.
Give them a look at
www.StonerHolsters.com and watch Jeff's video.
I have talked to them in person, they are really nice people. GIVE EM A SHOT.

I work in the same type enviroment and carry a S&W 38 airweight - very light and with a soft pocket holster looks like a wallet in my front pocket if at all. Your advantage of wearing "nice" pants is they can have pleats in the front and thus deliver more room to carry items in your pocket.

My 38 is extremely light. Almost to the degree that when I arrive home at night I forget to put the gun up and find myself eating dinner with the family with the gun in my pocket.

Good Luck.

im in the same boat.....i carry a black soft briefcase i got from 5.11 i really like, has molle webbing all over it but looks like a standard business carry, when i leave work it rides on a shoulder strap and i can walk with my hand on my 9mm. Inside the office i usually pocket or ankle carry......keltec or 340pd

I would suggest a few things for the op. The first would be a different gun. Sig makes a great product but the LCP and P3AT are much lighter and are DA, making them easy to pocket carry. The second would be holster placement. An ankle rig is great if your sit alot at work. Also a small of the back
holster works well in terms of not printing much. If you wear a jacket then pinging is easier to cover. The third thing is attire. The easiest to hide a ccw is a jacket. If a jacket is overdressed for the office a sweater or sweater vest, can help cover up if you carry in your waistband with either an IWB or OWB setup. The last option is deep concealed with a bellyband or something similar.

Keep in mind smaller guns are easiest to conceal no matter what you wear.

My job is very similar in dress requirement and I carry a Rohrbaugh R9S daily. I can pocket carry it in dress pants with a nice pocket holster or an inside pocket holster in my SigTac leather jacket. I have to go to some VERY bad neighborhoods alone and never go unarmed. I've never been "made" to date as carrying to my knowledge. The R9 series is virtually identical in size to the LCP/P3AT/P238 series .380 pistols, but with the more potent 9mm round, and DAO so no cocked and locked in your pocket. They aren't cheap by any means but are very high quality, accurate and dependable pocket pistols. It works for me anyway. I'm sure you could use a tuckable holster with an R9 much easier than a P232 without a doubt.

My best advice would be a Rohrbaugh R9s in a good tuckable IWB holster. If not the Rohrbaugh then consider the Kahr PM9 in the same type holster. They are comfortable and small.

I think MadHatter1 in post #5 may have address your biggest issue with comfort in carrying a pistol.

A good stiff belt is critical. A normal thin dress belt will not do.

I have been able to carry a full size 1911 for a couple of decades and not feel it most of the time I'm carrying it. I believe this is due to a good gun belt which stabilizes the gun and distributes the weight.

Same boat here friend. Office w/business casual, always tucked.

First, I haven't found a tuckable holster yet that I liked. Second, I think sooner or later that clip on your belt from a tuckable is going to draw some attention. I know people don't usually observet things like that but I do and I know other's do to and if they do and ask?

I suggets a 642 Airweight in a smart carry, or LCP or Keltec P3AT in the pants pocket. I could never get away with a J frame in my pants pocket because of the cylinder buldge. LCP or P3AT is flatter.

Having said that I think a .380 is a very very poor defensive round. Makes people feel good and people will defend it all day long but there's a reason no military or LEO's use it except for a back up.

Let's face it, as soon as you don't have a cover garment, the options become VERY limited.

I know one sales guy that wears these thin sweater vests. It's his style. You could adopt something like that and it works with ties but it's awfully warm. I know I wouldn't be comfortable.

Another option is the Kahr PM9. It's light and super thin so in the right tuckable it would be about as concealable as you can get. Any revolver's cylinder will likely feel a lot more chunky than a flat semi.

Again, I don't like the clip from a tuckable but if you get the best you can find and pair it with a PM9 you're probably doing the best you're going to be3 able to do other than to put a PM9 in a smart carry. I've used a smart carry and it's not too bad actually but the smaller and flatter the gun the more comfortable it'll be.

A lot of what I've said depends on how big or small you are and weather your pants are thin dress pants (they show revo's more than semi's) or dockers.

Good Luck

My .02-- The only way to truly conceal a pistol if you're wearing your shirt tucked in, is in your pocket. I also like pocket carry because the gun is readily accessible and there's no indication. If I'm walking or standing, I have one hand in a front pocket-- a perfectly natural stance-- but there's no evidence that when my hand comes out of my pocket it could be holding a gun. That has to be faster than reaching for a gun in an ankle holster or IWB holster.

If you're sitting at a desk, getting a gun out of a pocket holster is a different matter, but there are other alternatives and you don't have to carry in the same place all the time. The question is, if you were sitting at your desk and needed to access your gun, which would be faster, standing up and reaching in your pocket, or pulling it out of a concealed holster somewhere else?

As is usually the case, there's no single answer that provides the best solution for all situations. As for your choice of gun, I'm not particularly fond of DAO triggers, but it's probably the best option for a pocket gun. When you pull it out, all you need to do if pull the trigger. I really like the Sig P238, but I'm not really excited about the carry options (cocked and locked). Even if it's just as safe as DAO, it requires two separate operations to fire- safety off, pull the trigger. That's easy enough when you're not under pressure, but could be a problem in a situation where you had to react quickly.

Yes, the clip is noticable and i have been asked what my IWB clip is for...
Is the p238 small enough for pocket carry? I havent actually put my hands on one yet and what about a pocket holster for your back pocket like the lcp...I am a sig guy and want to stick with sig just so everyone knows, but thanks for the other gun options.

I only wear pants and shirt in my office and 75% of my employees don't even know that I carry:

Glock 26 + Milt Sparks Versa Max II Holster.

Perfect combination.

I am not a BUISNESS MAN but I AM A BLUE COLLAR WORKER . I have tried everything from ankle holsters .sholder holsters .iwb .owb.BUT MY FAVORITE IS FRONT POCKET . Living in florida NO PRINTING.

The belt clip is the most discreet of any holster I've seen. It's tuckable. I've carried my Walther P99 in this thing with tucked shirt. No one has ever noticed. The generic design allows you to carry many different guns without having to buy a new holster for each. Got mine for $55.

The little SIG is pretty small, but if you carry it cocked you will need a pocket holster-which increases the girth of the gun.
My solution to a similar problem is the Keltec P32 in my front pocket, without a holster. I have been carrying it for 11-12 years. Nothing on the market works better for me, and I have carried an awful lot of guns.
