CCW for the Business man

vacation

New member
HI, I am new to the forum and been carrying concealed for about 1 year. I have been carrying a sig 232 IWB tuckable holster, but I am in the office a lot with shirt, tie, and nice pants on...unfortunalty the IWB with a P232 is uncomfortable, somewhat noticable and not that great for my day to day deals.
I am thinking about getting a p238, but was wondering how good a tuckable IWB holster would be or maybe a pocket holster (dont really want that b/c of cocked and locked position with a p238)....
Are there any other businessmen out there on this forum that have the same challenge I do? My co-workers would flip if they new I carried in the office, but the p232 is just a little too big for my day to day work attire.
Please help and thanks for your time

I am in a state where open carry, printing, and many other CCW concerns are not a legal problem.

Do you have a crossbreed or Kholster? If you are having trouble I highly recommend you try one of those.
My crossbreed solved all of my CCW comfort problems.

As for visibility:
Last week I made a 20 minute presentation at my hunting club where I stood in front of the 50 people present with my G27 in crossbreed supertuck holster. I had almost half the pistol sticking up above my waist band. I was wearing a black polo shirt with a black Glock and the holster is black. After the meeting we were standing around talking and one of the guys, who I sat to the left of during the meeting and walked by with my gun at his eye level when i went to the front of the room noticed I had it on and said "Oh ****, did you have that on while you were up there? I did not even notice." A few of the other guys standing around said they hadn't noticed either. I do know one guy noticed the second I walked in the door and I made a quick stop at a gas station after the meeting, left my car running in front of the door, and the clerk couldn't decide whether he should put his hands up or not as I approached the counter. When I asked him if they had "those mouthwash strip things" he relaxed, I assume he decided I was a LEO.

Most people just don't notice, even people who carry, as long as you do not touch the gun(I sometimes rest my hand on the butt without thinking as it is over my hip).

I bought a Kahr T9 for "business carry". Slender and it looks as nice as any men's fashion accessory, so if you get caught as long as the person is not anti-gun it will probably pass well. Everyone in my office knows I carry and a lot of my clients do as well. I def have clients who stop in looking for a gun and ask me about what they should get or if I know of anyone who has something.

I'm in a profession that require meeting certian expected requirements as to dress. In my case, its suit and tie on a daily basis. Sparks VMII and a 5" 1911 just blend away. A good belt, appropriate for the attire, is an essentioal. I use 1 1/4" belts from the beltmane. Strong enough to support the weight, and classy enough that nobody knows its a gunbelt.

Thanks for all the advice...I am still considering the p238 b/c I am already carrying a .380 in my sig p232; so, why not go with smaller gun size/weight.
And still have a sig sauer (I am a sig fan though)

Any other advice would be appreciated. Like I said my co-workers would NOT appreciate knowing I carry in the office even though they know I am a gun nut. Any other p238 owners out there that can comment on this?

Professional by day...hillbilly by night :)

thanks

I haven't had much luck with the "tuckable" holsters. Sure, they allow your shirt to cover the gun, but the printing has always been pretty obvious.

Of course, with the right size gun they would be great. I had tried them with my Sig 239 and Glock 23. Both were too big for CCW with a tuckable holster IMHO.

I picked up a MDE .380 a few weeks ago and have been considering CCW in an ankle holster. Probably not the most comfortable or convenient method of carry, but better than nothing.

Oh, and check out the SmartCarry. I have not personally tried it yet, but have heard nothing but good things.

Smartcarry. In a suit with pleated pants, nobody will know you are carrying.

+10

It will not print and you don't have to worry about "touchy" people, because it is in an area that is completely inappropriate for them to touch.

I carry an XD45ACP Compact, or an XD40 Service in a Crossbreed, daily. I also carry a full size 1911 in a Crossbreed, on occasion. I HIGHLY recommend them.

I assume that you spend the majority of your time in the office sitting down. If this is the case, you may find that an IWB or pocket holster doesn't offer very quick access to your gun when you're sitting. If you wear a jacket, you might consider a shoulder rig and if not, you might want to consider an ankle holster (not the quickest to get to when standing but not bad when sitting).

I wear scrubs when working in the hospital and carry a S&W 360J in an ankle holster. It's comfortable and invisible.

I will throw in my two cents here... Look at the Galco ankle holster. It is comfortable and holds the pistol well. I use one when I cant use a belt holster.

I have three High Noon Holsters, and I love all of them. You really can't go wrong.

I have the Split Decision, purchased for my Taurus .357, but now carries my SP101. I like it well enough, but find the single large clip is fairly obvious. I guess not, since no one has commented on it, but I am less than comfortable about it with most dress. Otherwise, I do like it, though.

I have a tuckable holster from K&D leather for my Glock 36, which is fantastic. Its comfortable, holds well, and is easy to re-holster and such. I just replaced the clips with C-clips (whcih I had originally ordered) and it makes it very hard to spot.

I was curious as to if anyone carried in scrubs. I am looking to move more into the medical field (I work for a medical company in the business end, presently) and was thinking I might have to stop carrying for practicallity reasons. Maybe I can land a job in a private practice which doesn't have a no-gun policy...

Before the j-frame I carried a Kel-tec P3AT inside the waist band of my scrub pants using the pocket clip. That gun is light enough that it never gave me any trouble with the lightweight, drawstring pants. I still carry my knife, a Benchmade HK auto, clipped inside my waistband.

galco has (had) a soft leather/suede IWB that was tuckable. they called it the USA, Ultimate Second Ammendment. I bought it for a colt mustang, but now i use it for the P238. very comfortable and very concealed. I've also used a smart carry with the sig and also a PM9, with shirt tucked into jeans, no problem.
