CCW during Texas summer

I live in Texas so the summer is so hot I pretty much stick with flip flops, t-shirts and shorts.

What are some ideas for CCW when clothing is very light.

I Own a Taurus model 85 and a Springfield XD-40. Is it even reasonable to try carrying the XD? if I have to carry the Taurus how should I carry it in summer?

when I'm wearing shorts I put my ruger lcp in front pocket. when wearing jeans i use iwb with my 3" 1911.
what size is your xd? mines a 5" tactical and i cant conceal it at all(I'm 6' 180 lbs)

Mine is the XD-40 Service 4. A little samller but still pretty big. I always have cell phone keys wallet and kinds of other crap in my pockets.

really I want to know the best way to carry them when wearing super light clothing. Shorts and t-shirts.

I agree my 1911 is stainless and it get rust with just a few hours of iwb carry.. thats why i seam to carry the lcp more

the best way is gonna be a good iwb holster and a good gun belt if your gonna be using a larger gun

This of interest to me too as I will be moving to Texas later this year. I plan on carrying a USP compact or SIG229 in a IWB holster. Carrying in a front pocket feels weird to me...

T shirt with a light cover garment over it should do the trick. I'd be more concerned about wearing flip flops. Ever have to run or fight in flip flops? I'm not trying to be a smartass, but footwear IMHO is of utmost importance.

Cargo shorts and Hawaiian shirts that are 1 size larger than you normally wear. And a good pair of shoes,flip-flops are a bad idea if you're expecting trouble...With this method of dress you can carry anything you want, you'll just have to get used to having white feet...:D

Taurus 85 goes in the strong side front pocket,IN A HOLSTER!...And the XD goes in a quality IWB holster, strong side under the 1 size too large Hawaiian shirt. When carrying the XD,get in the habit of keeping your strong side hand in your pocket when it's windy...

I carried for a long time in Bullhead City,AZ just like this,it works...

Texas, outdoors, summer, you gotta go with a stainless gun, first of all.
Next, think SMALL gun, because you are gonna sweat, and your clothes
are gonna stick to you, and you will print if you are carrying a big gun.

Next, think pocket holster or IWB. Anything else, after you get all sweaty,
is gonna stand out like a sore thumb.

I carry either a micro-compact 1911 or a PPK, either"Mexican Carry" or
IWB. Either way, if you have to be outdoors, be prepared to be
uncomfortable. Texas summers are a Bi!@#.

In Tropical East Texas I carry a XD .45c IWB year round in a good holster with a good belt. I also have a M&P 9c that I carry IWB in a cheap holster with a simple clip if my shorts don't have belt loops.

Lately I have been pocket carrying an airweight snub, if your pockets are big enough that is by far the most comfortable and convenient carry I have done in hot weather.

In any case I'm usually wearing shorts with a big T-Shirt or slightly big collar shirt. A T-Shirt and open Hawaiian shirt would conceal almost anything you wanted to carry IWB.

The thing abt Texas heat and west U.S. heat like Arizona is in Arizona you cannot feel the sun killing you. In Texas you can feel the sun stabbing you as soon as you are walking out the door

I am starting to think that for me the best way is to carry my Taurus M85 in either a IWB or outside in the small of my back. Let my shirt flap over it. My XD is just going to be too big to carry concealed in the Texas heat.

When winter comes (or whatever you call that time in Texas) I will try my XD. But I might just yet still need to find an excuse to buy something in between in size to the XD and M85. Save my XD for home, or hell have my XD under the seat, my new in-between weapon concealed on my person, and my m85 in the glove compartment. Hey I'm in Texas the possibilities are endless.

A smartcarry/bellyband type setup with the gun just below the belt in the front center.

You'll want to pick a gun suitable for carry in a soft holster and you won't be able to carry anything but a small gun with rounded edges unless you are a LOT tougher in that region of your body than I am.

It's not a fast-draw proposition, but it will allow you to carry very discreetly even when wearing very light clothing.

Get one of those hybrid Kydex w/leather backing IWB holsters like a Crossbreed Supertuck, or a Comptac minitaur (the Taurus in the Minitaur is enough irony to make your ears bleed:D). My Supertuck works great in just shorts+t-shirt. A good belt and IWB rig doesn't care if you're wearing jeans or shorts.

I carry a snub of the same size and configuration as your M85 in a Don Hume 715 open top when it gets really hot in GA. A gun of any other size is too hard to conceal with comfortable clothing. With a good belt and a reasonably loose tee untucked, it is undetectable at 3:00. Slip a couple of speed strips or a combo of a speed strip and a speed loader in the pocket and your all set.

I have lived in central - south texas all my life and my favorite warm weather carry is either My smith 642 in a galco horsehide pocket holster or my galco Jak slide. The Jak slide is an underrated holster in my opinion, it carries almost every autoloader I own and is quite comfortable. Pistols just disappear under almost any shirt. The big bonus is you don't have the pistol digging into your midsection getting sweated on and the draw is ultra smooth.

have a good weekend y'all,
