Whatever you choose to do, keep the firearm out of sight.
I vividly recall one episode in a mens room where I was at a urinal when I heard a child's high piping voice calling out: "Daddy, that man has a gun!"
Obviously Dad had kid in stall, attempting to assist kid in doing business, kid is less than 3' tall, sees pistol belonging to guy in the next stall down around floor level, and of course calls it to Dad's attention.
When I heard it, though, I thought someone was getting jacked for a minute, and nearly peed on the guy next to me as I tried frantically to locate the threat.
The high little voice continued while the Dad tried frantically to get the kid buttoned up and on the road; "...he's got a gun, look, its a gun, he has it, its right there...look Dad, a gun!" for the entire time it took Dad to get Junior buttoned up and out the door. I can only wonder what the dude sitting in the stall felt like, with his business hanging out in the wind...I do know that every guy in the mens room was standing there staring at him as he emerged from the stall a few minutes later! (He left quite rapidly....didn't wash his hands! )
Lesson learned. I use a shoulder holster when I travel!
