CC at halloween time

So with the halloween season upon us comes many haunted houses, haunted corn mazes, haunted prisons, ect..., would you carry to an event where they are purposefully trying to scare you? Now I am a person who does not easily get scared, but do you think it would be foolish to carry at an event like these?

halloween

So what do you think might happen. Some clown in a scary mask will frighten you to the point you draw and shoot him/her? Do you think you should own a gun at all?

I cc about 99% of the time. If I were going to a haunted house in which there are mulitple people and kids, dark rooms and things touching and screams and flashing lights and etc of haunted houses, I would probably let
that be the 1% of the time and leave my cc in the lock box in the truck (under seat).

I've been to a couple of these things and sometimes you get in very tight dark spaces with people screaming and all touching each other and while I don't believe my revolver would "come loose" or be exposed, I might feel a little more comfortable leaving it behind for a few as odd as that sounds.

Nope, I do not think I would be foolish enough to even think about pulling my gun, and questioning me about whether I should even own a gun based upon a question I put up in a forum seems pretty ridiculous.

I would not worry about it...

... at a haunted house, party, etc. There, one expects such things.

What I do wonder about is the trend toward "reality" shows where people pull stupid pranks on unsuspecting friends. For instance, the scary guy with an axe, machete, or chainsaw pops out from a corner and acts as though he will attack.

I'm pretty sure none of my friends would be dumb enough to set up a stunt like that, but I wonder what precautions such shows take to ensure that the "victim" won't pull a weapon and shoot the simulated attacker.

I've had that thought since the first time I stumbled across one of those shows, a few years back. It was reinforced last week when we went to see "Zombieland."

Great movie, by the way. You'll understand what I'm talking about immediately, if you've seen it.

Cheers,

M

With all due respect.... if that not your concern... could you be a little more specific as to what your concern is?

Or do you want eveyone to make assumptions?

I would NOT cc in a haunted house Halloween activity, ive given this a bit of thought over the years. From the time of age 17 when i went to my first one i swore id never go back and as i get older that feeling gets reinforced many times over,Im 39 now.
I don't deal well with imaginary situations like that,i want to fight and defend myself.I don't like be touched let alone chased. Then my fear was i would punch or attack someone who scared me when i don't expect it out of a natural response.
Now i have a kid and if she was with me it would be much worse.
My kids aren't allowed to swing things by my face or tickle me unexpected, ive always been scared i would hurt them out of reflex.
I honestly don't think it would happen, but im not taking any chances.Ive had this unnatural fear for a long time tho.

Adding a gun to that situation you can bet mine wont be on me,but you wont see me there either.
Now im not saying anything what others should feel or do,im just stating my own personal stance on the subject.I do wish i could lighten up a bit and enjoy those things tho.

Oh and those reality "Scare Tactics" shows, they better be carefull as one day they may get someone killed with some stunts they pull.If they aren't already taking major precautions.
Dont get me wrong i get a big laugh from them and enjoy them, but if it was me in many cases,well......
And i dont think im alone in that as most of those are very REALISTIC situations that seem more than real.

I dont, and cant, CC in my state...

But there are places/events that I myself would not carry, and this would be one of them.

I can not see what the issue is about Halloween other than:
There will probably be many more people running around in masks so identifying a threat might be more difficult. But I assume you go upon actions not facial expressions.
There may be more people running around so that if you had to shoot you would have more concerned about hitting innocent people.
I am uncertain what is being asked.

Personally, I have less use for Halloween and all it's tentacles than I have for Pelosi, Reed, Frank, and Obama all rolled together.

Yep, . . . I carry the other 364 days, . . . might as well carry on 10/31.

May God bless,
Dwight

I carry every day, from the time I get dressed in the morning 'till I go back to bed at night. The only exception is where I can't legally carry, and I try hard to avoid such places.

Hollidays are not an exception to that. Being scared by someone in a spook house isn't reason to draw and/or fire. It would never even enter my mind.

Have a safe and happy Halloween.

Well with the swine flu out this year i will not be letting my daughter go do the candy rounds this year.
So i plan on taking her to the Apple seed shoot on the 31st.
At least i she will be enjoying her self all the while getting some needed education on the art of rifling. And without the worry of getting some germs.

But bet your bottom i would carry....its the reason i started.....for safety,no matter where i go.

not going to any haunted houses, but even if I was i would still carry.

I did see a woman mace a "chainsaw murderer" one year though. funny stuff and he dropped the real chainsaw on his foot (he was lucky there was no blade on it otherwise they would be calling him peg leg). No that lady doesn't need to be carrying at all much less mace/pepper spray.

It depends on your level of training. Someone trained to react without thought to a SD situation may find themselves in a room filled with smoke and a lot of frightened people.

In my younger days I was training in Shotokan karate 6 days a week 3 hours a day in class + 2-3 hours a day of self practice. And at a haunted house a guy did pop out at me and he did hit the floor a 1/2 second later. ( I left quickly, quietly and inconspicuously before anyone noticed). Not a single thought crossed my cerebral cortex, just pure reflex -- that was the last haunted house I visited. So I do think a real deal highly trained person may react so fast they can't stop themselves.

You might want to check your state laws (concealed carry or not). Most states have statutes that prohibit being armed and masked (or hooded) at the same time (armed robbery).

I realize that your original question didn't make reference to you wearing a mask,....however considering the topic, I thought this info might be helpful.

With all the grabbing that goes on, its a ND waiting to happen. It probably wont even be your hand that does it. Bad situation; You do know that people do carry toys that look real in those places right? If the grabber sees or feels yours, they will assume its fake or toy in the spirit of the event. If an accident happens, you are responsible and guilty, worse you WILL have the book thrown at you if you are prosecuted. Ignorance or bad judgment is not an excuse, think about that.:(

I suggest open carry with the largest gun you own for halloween. It insures that your kids will be given alot of candy:D
