Case shoulder cave in

I heard once that a 257 Weatherby round could be made from a standard 7mm Rem Mag round by just running it in the die for 257 Weatherby.

Have you ever tried this out of curiousity?

sorry for the delay in response.
the problem seems to be solves, it was a combination of the case not staying expanded in the chamber for the entire process of the powder burning. or possibly a second burn. i switched to the federal LR magnum match primers and switched powders. it also really seemed to help to keep the bore really clean, and im seating the bullets further in. havent had any cases showing the pressure signs.
Peter, yes i have done that. you can press form 7MM brass in a .257 wby and then load it up and shoot it. the case length is a little shorter but its not really a concern. i would also recommend annealing them after as that is quite a bit of stress on the brass.

Thanks again to everyone for their help, i am once again in love with shooting my .257 wby!

If my cases collapse like the ones pictured I use faster powder, heavier bullets and or more powder. The neck did not expand and seal the chamber, gas traveled back between the chamber and case before the case sealed the chamber. And then:eek: the hot high pressure metal cutting gas got trapped between the chamber and case preventing the case fro expanding etc., and as a results; big dents. When a reloader 'almost' has it correct and worked out the case neck will turn black and carbon up. Again, a friend died, his wife gave a reloader close to 80 7 Remington Mag cases that he did not use so he gave them to me. The carbon on the necks had to be chiseled off. I then suggested we find the rifle because there was no way the neck of the case could expand when releasing the bullet. No one new who got the rifle; but we tried.

Sniper, you are correct, when I made the additional post to the very end of the old post I thought about the comment someone made about the perfect country song. He did not agree; he did not believe the song was perfect because the song omitted words like coffee, pick-up truck, jail or prison being drunk, rain, beer, mommy, dammed or jail. And then the author of the song thought about it and added a verse or two..

It went something like:

Someone thought the thread was worthy of repeating on another forum so I read though the old responses and added a few verses because. And then there is that part about making additions to old threads. To make the post a box must be checked meaning checking the box means the poster is aware the post is 'OLD'.
