Carrying question

you are paranoid! I understand the importance of knowing the laws in my state and have searched and continue to search for clarification on those laws. I live in Pennsylvania which I DID mention before but some have missed that fact. If anyone from Pa knows where exactly I can get a complete list of the laws that would be great because I do not seem to be able to find them myself.

If I see a sign saying no firearms/knives/anything I vote with my wallet.I will not patronize that establishment period. There are lots of other places where my money is welcome gun or not.tom.

As mentioned, it depends on the state. In Kentucky for example, it is perfectly legal to ingnore those signs unless you are going into a local, state or federal government building. If you get caught with a CCW there, you are in deep trouble.

However, if I took a walk into Walmart and they noticed my CCW the Walmart has every right to ask me to leave. If I refuse, the police come and arrest me for trespassing. They do no arrest me for having a CCW in Walmart.

I think cjw3cma had a very good post. Why do you wish to challenge another citizen, who just happens to own/rent the property you want ? Are you not then just another BG ?

Concealed carry by state

Try this link to find your states concealed carry laws.

As always, there is a disclaimer as to the accuracy of any web based reference.

If all else fails, contact the Attorney Generals office for your state and ask.

I just acquired my Permit to Carry last Dec. I had to take an 8 hour class that dealt with the Carry Laws, Personal Protection Laws and Firearms safety.
The issues of where you can and cannot carry were discussed in great detail. When you guys took your class for your carry permit, was there no discussion or instruction on where you are allowed and not allowed to carry?

Here in MN you cannot carry in a Fed Building, Post Office, School or an Off Campus Building Hosting a School Function. You are not allowed to carry in any business or private property that is posted. If the property is posted, you cannot carry. To carry illegally your permit will be subject to revocation. Carrying on posted property will get you that same punishment as carrying intoxicated, in a Post Office etc. Basically your right to carry is gone.

I tend to think Nnobby and Kreyzhorse are correct but as so many others have stated, check your local laws. If a penal code clearly states, "Wherever posted shall be prohibited" than there you go. I have to think though, that if there is no such statute, a movie theater can't just go making automatic legislation on the grounds they put up a sign. What if the theater owner is a klansman and wants to segregate his theater? "No blacks" would certainly not be legal, right? No guns on school grounds is a no-brainer. You don't have to put up a sign there. I just think you'd learn where you can't carry when you get your permit.

I thought "bad guys" were people who willfully intend to prey upon other people, not just someone who carries something in their pocket that will stay there and never used for the purpose of predation.
I could not possibly put CCW permitted carriers in the category of "bad guy" because their ONLY intent is to protect themselves, not harm others for personal gain. That even goes for permitted carriers who are caught in a no-gun zone carrying a pistol (shame on them for letting themselves get caught).

That said, I ignore most of the no-gun signs for one reason: Real bad guys will ignore them too, so all the sign does is to make sure that a bad guy is armed and that I wouldn't be able to protect myself (and maybe others).
Refer to the Luby's incident as mentioned earlier.

At the same time, there are places that actively screen for weapons such as Court Houses and at airports. In those places, the people in authority are willing to take direct responsibility for keeping armed bad guys out so I'm willing to be unarmed as well.

In all other places where there is only a sign posted but with no active screening for weapons, I'm packing and don't think twice about it.
Concealed is concealed, though, so I've gotten to really like some of the "deep cover" pistols that have come out in recent years. Two that I've depended upon for those deep carry situations are my Rohrbaugh and LCP, with the Rohrbaugh being my favorite being as it's the same size as the LCP but in 9mm.

In Texas, it's really easy because there is only one "legal" sign that can be posted by establishments. It's call the "30.06" sign (no relation to the caliber). It's a very specific sign designated supposedly "official" by the State of Texas. Almost no establishments that I have seen with no-gun signs use the 30.06 sign, so it is perfectly legal to enter those places with a permitted carry piece.
The worst the establishment can do to you if they find you carrying is to simply ask you to leave. That's it.
If you go into a 30.06 establishment with a gun, you are breaking the law, but re-read my first two paragraphs to know why I still carry in those places.

Good thread and I agree with most contributors. Read the law for your area. Should already know if you have a CCW. Important stay aware of changes. Here in Fl they recently placed a law that prohibted an EMPLOYER from banning weapons in an person's personal vechicle parked in employee parking.

In VA, if you are caught in a business that's posted, they'll escort you off the property and issue a tresspassing notice. If they call the PD and pursue the issue, the police can only charge you with tresspassing, not a weapons violation.

My question is: Your carrying concealed, upholding and adhearing to the laws of your state, why would you knowingly violate the law? If it's a criminal offense to carry where it's posted you can't, then simply purchase a steel biometric safe and have it welded into your vehicle to store your weapon, or don't visit that establishment.

When I got my card there was practically nowhere I couldn't carry. I've been armed within 20 feet of 2 presidents with the knowledge of the SS

If I see a place with a no guns sign I give this to the manager

Most places can ask you to leave even if they don't have the no firearms sign up. If it is a privately owned place of business. In WA you are not breaking the law by carrying into a movie theatre that has the signs up. The most you could be charged with is criminal trespass if you didn't leave when asked. If it is concealed you don't have to worry about it unless you have to defend yourself with it. Thats when all the legal problems will start

There are too many times when you can't foresee that where you end up is going to be a no-carry area.
What do you do when you get there and your car is 6 blocks away?

I see no reason why upright and honest citizens should be inconvenienced to that extent when the real BG's don't give a flip.
I also see no reason to limit my activities, nor to give up my Constitutionally protected right to defend myself by carrying a defensive weapon just because some ninny thinks that guns jump out of holsters and fire at women and children the moment it has a chance.

Think about it this way...just like gun laws, or laws in general, the only ones who obey those laws ARE LAW ABIDING CITIZENS.

So the next time you go somewhere and see a sign that says "no guns", ask yourself "What would Charlie Manson (or someone like him) do?" Then ask youself do you really want to leave it in the car.

I'll take my chances, keep it concealed, and keep safe.

Any establishment that consciously deprives me of my rights...
I will consciously deprive them of my dollars.

And I will make sure to let them know this, as well.
The card in post #35 is great, I will print some of those up and carry them. :)

I totally agree, If the state has done a complete background check and found I'm legally able to carry a concealed weapon, the businesses should allow concealed carry. That be the case, however, these are private owned businesses, and they make their own policy's in their establishments. If they have a posted on weapons sign, I simply take my business elsewhere, I don't break the law by carrying into a posted business. In the case of my vehicle being 6 blocks away, then I have no answer for you other than don't go into that business.

On my PDA, I keep track of businesses in my area that are posted, and those basically are:

1. Roses
2. Langley Federal Credit Union
3. AMC Theaters
4. Regal Theaters
5. Cinema Cafe. In this case, if it wasn't posted, by law, you'd be required to open carry as they serve alcohol in this establishment, and in Virginia, it is illegal to CCW in a business that serves alcohol, however, it is LEGAL to open carry in such a business, unless posted that is.
