I would suggest what I'm carrying right now -- a KelTec PF-9 -- but I won't. It seems that you are new and that gun is NOT a good choice for a new shooter.
I'd suggest getting a Bersa Thunder .380. Granted, the ammo (.380 ACP) isn't a cheap as 9mm nor does it hit with as much authority, but the gun is more controllable, more conducive to developing good marksmanship habits (only good hits count, after all), and yet is still quite concealable and easy to carry. And -- good hits with a .380 will still get the job done.
but both of the " micro " 9mms are way out of the budget you listed ( I speak to Kahr or Roraghbaugh or however you spell it lol)
Ah, but there's a third "micro" 9mm on the market now. One that is not out of the stated budget. One that I wouldn't feel bad about recommending -- to an experience shooter who has already developed good habits. That is the Kel-Tec PF-9. Then again, I wouldn't recommend either of the 2 spendier ones -- the Kahr or the Rohrbaugh -- for exactly the same reason. None of the 3 are what I'd want to start a new shooter on.
