Carry flashlight????

Good to see the flashlight manufacture I'm leaing towards for personal carry is popular here. I'm seriously looking at the Z3, possibly one of the "Executive" variants to accompany my concealed weapon when out and about.

I keep a 2-D Cell Maglite handy at strategic places in the home. One in my office/hobby room, one in the bedroom, one in the kitchen and one in each vehicle. I also stash one of the mini-mag lights (2-AA) in my day pack when trekking through the woods. A couple of the mini's are scattered here and there to suppliment the other maglites.

Keep those opinions and advice coming... Good info!!

Mini maglight in each vehicle...

Maglight Solitaire in my pocket

6D-cell Maglight in pickup and Jeep (good club, great light)

A Surefire M-2 is my favorite light. I also have a streamlight scorpion which I like also. After you go with a Surefire or a Streamlight those mag lights look like a bad candle on a birthday cake. Wish I had found these long ago.The wife has a Surefire Executive Elite that she likes a bunch..........A bit of advise for new buyers of Surefire lights would be the original 6P has the most holster options of all Surefire lights if you don't like the clip on type....Only thing I wish the Streamlight Scorpion had that it doesn't is a lock out tailcap.

I used to use a Streamlight Scorpion till I did a night shoot and Andy Stanford let me try his SureFire E2E. I liked it enough I bought one and now it lives clipped to my pocket. The Streamlight stays in the bugout bag in the truck with the 4D Maglite already there.

I have both Streamlight Scorpions and Sure Fire Z3s. No doubt that the Sure Fire light beam is more regular and has no shadow spots. This is due to the non-adjustible aspect of the light being part of the reflector. That seems to be the same for all Sure Fires.

In comparing my Scorpion with fresh batteries against my Z3 that uses 3-3 volt batteries versus the 2 in the Scorpion, I am not terribly impressed by the Sure Fire that cost nearly 3 times as much. With either light I have no problem being able to illuminate a target at 100 yards which is probably 75 yards further than the greatest range at which I would engage a target with a handgun. The 2 battery Sure Fires like the 6P cost about twice as much as the Scorpion.

The Scorpion has some other advantages beside being less expensive when bought knew and having comparable usefulness for the intended job. The Scorpion actually comes with a spare bulb that is carried in the light housing. So you get two bulbs with your purchase. Also, replacement bulbs run about $5 for the Scorpion, but for the fixed light Sure Fire that does not come with a spare, not only is the light going to be replaced when it goes out, but so too is the reflector. Depending on where you purchase, the replacement may run $15 on sale up to $25.

No doubt that the Sure Fires are better lights. But for the money, the extra beam quality benefits are hugely expensive for the amount of improvement over the Scorpion. Twice or three times the price does not result in twice or three times the improvement of the light. The Sure Fire is a better light, but the Scorpion is more cost effective and at closer ranges, both perform very well.

Al/Windler/Size15s,

What are you doing here? Looking for another moderator job?

You don't even own firearms in the UK do you?

Since my Surefire 8X is in for repair I have been carrying my normal off duty light an E2E on duty as well for about two weeks of midnights. I have it clipped in my weakside pocket. After drawing it on two felony stops this seems to be a good spot for it. When I have my 8X it is carried in a Blade Tec bezel down carrier in the front of my duty belt on the weak side so I can present it with my pistol. I also have a Streamlight Stinger in the car for backup or for when some bonehead on my shift forgets his light. I feel like Deniro saying "This is this".

I tend to hang out where-ever SureFires are being discussed.

I don't need another Moderatorship. I'm a very specialised guy - flashlights (who am I kidding?) SureFires are my bag.

As I understand it from my limited experience, an Englishman does not have the same firearms rights that Americans fight so hard to keep. Nor does he have rights to carry "offensive" weapons such as knives, batons, sprays or tasers etc. But he is allowed to carry a torch, wear a wristwatch, and have a pen in his jacket pocket. His mobile phone has two number to alert the emergency services although he may not realise that 112 works just as well as 999.
But I'm off topic...

Have you guys seen the prices being quoted for SureFire's KLx and G2Z?
These products are going to rock. Seriously!

When I first got into SureFires, the Scorpion'v'SureFire debate was hot. Now I get the impression it's a dead issue. Over the years, the SureFires are evolved, improved.

The E2(e) has become the carry flashlight that people post about when asked what they carry. The 6P is a Classic, but just like the Scorpion and other SureFire clones, life has moved on.

We are experiencing a revolution in illumination technology.

Flashlights

Me E1e goes everywhere with me. Hoping to move up to an E2e or G2 for my birthday coming up.

3 d-cell Maglites in each vehicle. One in the attic. 2 d-cell Maglite by the bed along with a Hubbellite mini. Minimag in my closet to make sure my tie matches! Regular Hubbellite in the den.

Pound for pound the Maglites have been reliable and effective. I'm looking at a Streamlight however...

Since we're talking lights and no one has responded to my separate thread, let me ask it here.

How do you mount your light to your gun? I'm considering the Quick 2 See system brought to us by Break-Free. It seems the best of the systems out there, as it allows you to place mounting brackets on several weapons and switch the same flashlight around as you need it.

I particularly like the idea of having one light for my Mossy 500c and Colt 1991. With the Colt, I could have a dedicated spare mag fitted with the mounting bracket and use it as a right-angle light. This would mean not covering a no-shoot target with my weapon, but having the light and spare mag handy should it be needed.

Attached to the mossy, it's another story, but I live alone and wouldn't need to worry about non-hostiles in the house.

Anyhow, it looks like a good system on the website and I was wondering if anyone had seen or tried it.

6Z, but after this thread I'm thinking about changing to the E2e. I like the lock-out tailcap, and I wish the 6Z was just a hair smaller, but I don't want to go to a single-cell light.

E1e for a "disappears in the pocket but always there" light, and an M2 for those occasions when more light is needed or my pockets are bigger!

I just received an order of 20 Toshiba CR123a's from Botach for $30. Best price I could find. Shipped on time and everything.

Part: Toshiba-CR123A/G26

Surefire E2e. Bought from botach for a good price. Also bought the 20 pack of lithium batteries, great price @$26 or so with gommint discount.

Backup is photon microlight 3, white LED. Looking for an Inova x5 Tactical.. I heard these can use the spent lithium batteries from the Surefire. Might be nice.

I really liked the pocket clip on the E2e... but... it does kind of get in the way if you carry other stuff in your pocket, even though it is a small light. The way it is set up, the bezel is facing upwards meaning that it might have a higher potential of being scratched or dinged up. I'm thinking about switching to a Z2 or Z3 and carrying in pocket bezel down with lanyard hanging out a little so I can tug to retrieve it.

The E2e is VERY nice. IMO well worth the $. Two days ago it came in handy checking out some of the very dark animal exhibits at the local wild animal park. Impressive.

I patrol the hood and in the hood there seems to be a lot more mirriors in homes than other places. If you have a light dedicated weapon and that baby hits the mirror it blinds the hell out of you. Easier to avoid with an off hand light. By the way, I got my 8X back in two weeks. The gave me a new battery and a lens for nothing. So to pay em back I ordered my Mom and E1.

You flashlight gurus are gonna laugh

I've got about 5 flashlights around the house/car/briefcase, total I probably paid $35.

Bedroom and back-door, I've got those 6-volt lanterns that you can get at Lowe's for $3.75 or so on special... I keep ending up with more of them, because during hurricane season you can usually get the lantern with battery for less than you can buy the battery on its own.

In the car is one of those rubber-armor type 2-D flashes, with the batteries in a separate container, this after I reached for the light years ago and found that the batteries had leaked and ruined the light.

In my briefcase, which is with me almost always when I'm out of the house, I've got a mini-maglite 2-AA with batteries out, same reason as the car light, and... the jewel of them all, one of those little $2.50 "elbow" shaped disposable flashlights you can get in any American hardware or discount stores. I carried one years ago on a cross-America hitchhiking trip, and it did great. They seem to ALWAYS light up, they are cheap to replace, I've got one in each bug-out bag, and if I have to transit the 18 floors of the exit stairway in my office building in an emergency, I know it will do the job for me.

Now, I do envy you your clip-on skorpions and sure-fires, and someday I'll own one, but the siren call of the reloading equipment and components keeps draining my bank account before I order one.
