Canik55 thread

I have recently purchased my first handgun after a while of research and shooting. I ended up getting the canik55 s120 9mm. I bought it for $399 at a local shop. Note that it is a full steel frame and nearly identical to a cz. I have put around 140 rounds through it without fail as one would expect. It's an incredibly soft shooting gun, at least compared to a 9mm glock that I fired a while back. Very accurate as well.

I figured I would make this thread so there is a place where anybody that has information on caniks, reviews, complaints, and hopefully some options for accessories!

I feel the caniks are a huge bang for the buck! Even my girl enjoyed it!

Any information or input is appreciated, hopefully we can create a plethora of user input on them in here.

I picked up a Canik55 tp9 a year or so ago. It has been really reliable.
Pretty good bang for the buck.
The only issue I found was the feed ramp is not as forgiving as some other 9mm's I own.
It wont feed my SWC loads. Not a big deal, It shoots any RN cast or jacketed just fine.

Its not my Favorite 9mm. But I am not unhappy with it at all. My Son on the other hand thinks its the Cats A$$. He shoots it every time we go out.

I did have some fun last winter with it. I shoot in a league over the winter.
I was kicking some butt with the Canik. All the guys shoot high end stuff too.
Kimbers, ect.
They were all, " Hey what is that thing?" I wouldn't tell them ether.

I just said " its my secret weapon for kicking your butt."
I love out shooting Gun snobs with a bargain gun.
This winter I am going to shoot a $299 Beretta 92s police trade in.

These are what I shoot in all my 9's now. the Canik really likes them.

I have a Canik t120 in desert tan. Great gun and good looking. Sleek, not blocky. I have about 2300 rounds through it with no failures. (Actually I have had two Ftfs and a stovepipe but those were ammo related shooting reloads) my only complaint is that the sights are set too low and are non-adjustable. I talked to the guys at Cajun gun works about it and they said they all come that way since they are made for the European not American sight picture (i.e. Front post on top of, not below, the bullseye). It is super accurate and more reliable than most guns on the market costing twice that much.

I've been going back and forth between getting a Canik S120 or saving up the extra for a CZ75. Honestly, the only think keeping me from an S120 is parts availability compared to the CZ.

The fact that parts aren't readily available does scare me a little bit, but they're quite reliable. Obviously things happen and parts wear etc...I'm curious how warrantying goes.

I'm interested in the shark fc or the stingray. Especially being available in .40 with a rail system.

Ya, parts wearing out is my concern. I know it can share some parts with the CZ75, so that helps a little. If I knew parts would be available down the road, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

my list keeps getting longer, but the large ported canik is definitely on there, it'd be a nice HD pistol. as for now I have the canik/tristar T100. shoots like a dream and with over 5000 rounds, never ONE malfunction. even with the crazy lead cast handloads I shove down it. great, accurate pistol, but the finish is terrible. mine has the alloy aluminum frame and the blue just doesn't stick, sticks great to the steel slide, but still worth every penny.

at least I don't need to handle it like a Faberge egg

That gives me hope with the full steel framed s120 as for the finish. Overall (including the tp9) they feel solid as rocks. Really looking forward to putting some more rounds through it.

Anybody know anything when it comes to aftermarket? From what I understand cz grips fit with minor modifications. More interested in getting some better sights for it if possible.

Yes, by the way, the finish does hold up just fine on the steel framed models. If you decide you want an alloy framed model, go with their matte chime finish(forget what they call it), I think they also have some cerakoted models in fde etc which would also be fine. But don't worry about the steel

I have found myself really eager to go shooting again haha. Got some time planned for Tuesday. I'll be shooting an m&p40 and an xd40 the same day. Interested to see how they compare as far as trigger feel and such. Also looking forward to shooting some .40

Just an update. Put another 150 rounds through the s120 with no hiccups as one would expect. I have 100 Winchester white box 115 grain, 150 magtech 115 grain, and 50 other 115 grain rounds through it. All fed great and worked wonderfully.

I find it very easy to start to dial in accuracy with the s120, I'm loving it. Very easy to improve and fix any bad habits with positive results.

I also picked up some hst hallow points and fed a few through with the same results. I'm loving this gun.

Ended up going to the shop with my brother and a friend who applied for their blue cards (required in Rhode island for pistol ownership) and my brother ended up putting a down payment on a walther ccg, nice little gun feels great in the hand.

ive had my TP-9 for comin right up on 3 years
it feeds and feeds and feeds
i have 4 magazines for it
they are like endless when shooting
certinaly not the most accurate
but its as good as any Glock for accuracy
and it runs like the wind!!
i have LOTS of rounds thru mine
would i buy a TP-9 SA? nope what were they thinking?
and i have no idea what the tp-9 V2 is about
i wish they would import the TP-40
i would be all over that! (and the TP-9 mags should work fin in it,in fact the mags say TP series not caliber and .40 fit nicely in them)

Where can I find an original, new TP9??

All the ones out there now are the SA (no thanks) or the V2 model with the shorter barrel.

My shop got my s120 directly from canik I believe. It's not a rebranded TriStar. Next time I swing in I'll ask how they got it.

I have a Canik/Tristar T100

I've only put about 500 rounds through it, but it's shot everything I've fed it. It seems particularly fond of 6.0/Herco/124 FMJ or LRN, though I suspect it'd be just as happy with a JSP or JHP (since it's mainly for killing paper, I haven't reloaded any "social" projectiles for it).

To the best of my reckoning, this is a copy of the Cz-75B compact model. I don't know of any way in which I would likely be happier with a "REAL" Cz, vs. this iteration. Out of the box, the trigger was never worse than "okay", and appears to improve slightly with every round I run through it.

I have fed some factory (leftover) JSP/JHP rounds through it, and it just gobbled them up and spit them out like it'd been doing it for years. I agree with what the gentleman said about the bluing being weak on aluminum parts. For the money, though, I can live with that.

Another 110 flawless rounds through it. I shot a fee other guns last week and I'm still impressed by the trigger of the s120. So smooth and such a clean break. Very accurate because of this. Rivals if not beats a stock cz trigger.

I personally believe that Canik firearms are one of the best kept secrets among gun owners. I have owned a Tri-Star L120 for several years and it has functioned flawlessly. It is possibly the softest shooting, most accurate 9mm I have ever fired. In my area, both Tri-Star and Century Arms branded Canik firearms are sold at Academy Sports stores. Tri-Star has great customer service, and I cannot picture replacement parts being a problem.

Got some bad news :( I had three ftf today with some fmj 115g ammo. Forgot the exact brand and name I'll take a look in a bit. I feel as if it was caused by being a little dirty. Two rounds had no visible strike on them and it looks like they simply did not chamber correctly. The third had a very light strike. I feel as if the ammo I was using is quite dirty and caused the feed ramp to gum up a bit. After stripping it down I did see some brass bits all along the internals of the gun pretty much coatinf everything. The guide ramp was also super dirty. This only happened after about 180 rounds through it today and on the last 70 rounds or so. Will be cleaning it and testing further. 3ftf in around 7-800 rounds :/
