Canik TP9SA Review

ive been shooting my TP-9 (not the SA as its not out yet)
for over 2 years im a early adopter!
more than 5k rounds thru it , yes i said more than 5000 (i shoot my carry gun at least 100rnds/week and if i like it i shoot it even more!!!)
its a damn sewing machine
shoots everything i shove in it
and ive done some crazy reloads!
would i recommend it? hell yes
it was my carry gun for quite awhile
and now that i broke my 3rd gen smith
it is my carry gun again
it is a full size pistol so IWB carry not so much
but i OWB carry it everyday (i do have a Remora for it also) and i had a holster made for it using a P99 blue gun as a model by Dave at STURDYBELT.COM
rLROKZ

big,strong,reliable
i may grab one of the new ones as they are a unbeatable value
ive seen my version as low as $269!

My New TP9SA and a modified 30 round magazine

Just got the TP9SA and was at my range on Friday and it shoots very well and has a light trigger pull. I then got my Taurus 92 30rd cheap National copies on Saturday and modified it to work with the TP9SA. A little dremel work and lubrication - these are really cheap magazines for $15 each. The Mec-Gar magazines that came with the TP9SA has the nice anti-friction coating. I could have bought a Beretta 92 magazine with the anti-friction coating, but it would cost me $40 and take the chance with modifying that. For a cost effective trial the snap caps are cycling well and I'll try it at the range tomorrow.
Check out the attached photos.

Does the TP9SA have a major short coming?

From all that I have read the TP9SA does not have a stainless steel barrel or slide like the S&W MP series or the Glock pistols. I was going to buy one until I noticed this. I live in a high moisture area and am concerned about storing it anywhere with out climate control.

Oh no you broke 3 of the anti's laws today,,,you modified a magazine, used a 30 round magazine, and saved money! Your in big trouble buddy!...lol ;)

In all seriousness the Turks have made some Quality pistols. Look at the reviews on the SAR (Sarsilmaz) and Tisas make a fine fit low cost 1911. Not really up to date on Girsan but have seen some positive reviews on them. They make a 1911 and a Beretta 92 copy too.

Note on the Canik...the majority of their designs including Shark, Stingray, and Piranha were based of the CZ with the slide inside of the frame design. Pretty successful guns too. Looks like they changed/added direction with the new TP series.

Glocks don't use stainless steel for the slides or barrels. They use carbon steel and treat it with Tennifer, a chemical process that permeates the metal and offers protection. S&W uses Melonite on the stainless which frankly is odd to me because 1. The Melonite should offer more protection that the stainless anyway (like wearing oven mitts under a thermal suit) 2. From what I have read it is more difficult to chemically treat stainless due to how specific the temps need to be 3. You end up with the weight of stainless as opposed to carbon steel.

Anyway, I am not sure the finish that Canik uses. Assuming they use anything half decent though you should be fine.

if memory serves the barrels look like a brushed stainless or something similar and the slides are cerakote. not the best out there but not bad considering the price tags.

I got one just for the S&Gs of it it was a good price and different so I got one I think it's a nice gun and really well made every one complains of the drcoker well if you hit it by accident in a gun fight God had already decided it was your day lol its out of the way and it would REALLY REALLY be hard to hit by accident what you hear about the triger is TRUE
