I heard it on the news last week. At some sporting event they played our national anthem and a BUNCH of Canadians started boo-ing. It reached its climax when the words "Land of the Free" came on... holy crap.....
I'm sure you can google this and find out the specifics. What do you guys think about that kind of thing?

Ok... I just did some searching and it sounds like this stuff goes on a lot. In fact their national anthem gets boo-ed just as much. Do you think this is right? Should we respect the anthems?

hockey

back awhile ago when they would do both american and canadian national athems at hockey games with an american and canadian team, there would be booing from both ends. i always thought of it as rather comical, nothing to be offended over.

I attended a Sabres game last night in Buffalo, and they still play both regardless of who the teams are, this they have always done and both are well respected. After 30 plus years I even know the Canadian's by heart. I believe if anyone ever disrespected either in public there would be a hefty price to pay, but then again this is Buffalo we're not really in step with the main stream. ( thank God)

hockey anthems,booing

I've only seen it happen once at a hockey game up here. The Dinks behind us were into the beer and started booing the Buffalo team.My self and another guy set em straight and had them tossed out. Turns out he was from Sasketchewan,so I bought him a Beer. You guys are great neighbours. Jim;)

It seems that common decency is becoming less common. OTOH, if anyone wants to be rude and make a##&# of themselves, it doesn't bother me.

Doesn't surprise me one damn bit.

I do not care who's national anthem is playing, I will not boo and I expect the same courtesy. Just simple common decency and manners. Sports are supposed to be about sportsmanship above all else. Just my humble opinion.

The correct thing to do when another nation's anthem plays is to stand quietly.

I wouldn't expect anyone to salute or sing along as US citizens should, but boo-ing is right out... on both sides.

For some reason I'm reminded of professional wrestling - playing the anthem of some "foreign" wrestler was a part of his character as a bad guy from Parts Unknown. Then, when facing his US rival who'd play the US anthem in return, he'd spit and curse all during it - then attack before it was over. Effective part of the wrestling drama... Even though both were born and raised in Kansas... ;)

Canada's Liberal media leads their citizens around with a hook through their noses and indoctrinates them with pointless anti-American propaganda. Canada has only one voice in their media and therefore their people think in lockstep.

Just bring up the southpark movie, about canadiens just flapping their heads all the time. I did that to a couple of em when the colts played the buffalo bills in 2003, they didn't like it. Guy starts saying something and i asked him what he was talking aboot! he gave me the finger and walked away.
about booing an anthem, i'd give the one finger salute to the irag anthem anyday.:barf:

Living so close to Canada all my life and having many Canadian friends that live and work here I really don't see that at all. Maybe in the Toronto area its that way but I find most can think for themselves. To me it seems like their views just don't mean anything except to themselves and most are forced to go along for the ride with the liberals that control their country.
That must be frustrating, just like a conservative/republican living in New York.

Just watched the Utah Jazz stomp the Toronto Raptors at the Delta Center in SLC...

Polite applause and cheers after BOTH anthems...

Could it be we Americans just have more class?
