Can you talk me out of the XDM 3.8" 9mm?

I'm going to buy my first semi auto Carry very soon.

Pretty set on the XDM. Everything I read about it seems great and it looks amazing. Not a fan of the grip safety but obviously not a deal breaker.

Also not a fan of the price tag :) but I will pay the money for reliability.

Have been looking at a lot of guns and there are a lot of competitors like the Ruger SR9 or even the M&P shield.

What can you say to help me make a better decision? Anything bad I should know or anything that makes other guns superior?

You ever shoot one? Does it fit your hand?
Muzzle flash will be impressive. No worse than any other short barrel though.
If you're going to carry it, you must practice with it using the same ammo you intend carrying.
Don't worry about the grip safety. You won't notice it. Never have with a Government Model myself. Just isn't an issue.

Never shot but it fits nice. I'd have to get the pinky extension or use the bigger mag for a full grip but my local range has complete garbage to choose from as far as rentals.

Pretty much have to buy blind with my available resources.

The only gun that felt better in hand was px4 storm full size. (Although I have not held many)

Thanks for the practice tip btw.

The only gun I have now is a Police Positive .38 S&W. It's a revolver for any who may not know.

Budget $600 max, preferably less.

Pturner haha. That looks great but any input of why you think it is better?

Looks great, same price. I do like what I see.

My only objection. This is my first carry gun and I will carry it everywhere allowed. Call me a noob but the whole "cocked and locked" thing scares me. Do you have to use it this way? I don't know anything about de cocker type

The XDM seems a bit safer in that regard.

I think better is subjective. I have owned/fired many guns and find that the CZ just feels better in my hand, and I am also more accurate with the CZ. I have friends who own XDM, Glock, Ruger, M&P, etc, etc and they all love firing my CZ. I don't think anyone can make an accurate assessment of a gun until you actually hold it and fire it. If you get a chance, fire a CZ. Then you will understand what I am saying.

Forgot to answer. The decocker can be used for cocked and locked. You can have the magazine in without a round in the chamber if you prefer.

It seems to me that you will forever be second guessing yourself if you don't take time to shoot some of these different guns. The XDM 3.8 is a great gun.I carry mine without hesitation. In your posts you want to compare it to guns that are greatly different from it. The Shield is a very good gun,but it has a single stack mag and a much thinner frame,so it's a bit of a different animal from the XDM. The CZs are also wonderful choices, however they have DA/SA tgiggers, safeties and decocker capabilities that are way different from XDMs. I would wholeheartedly recommend the 3.8 because I have years of experience with it and thousands of rounds through it,but I don't think you really know what you want so my dream gun may turn out to be your regret. You will get lots of good pros and cons here but in the end you have to figure out what suits you best and hands on is the only way .Best of luck to you.

I wouldn't buy it just because there's a picture of one on every other page of the latest Rifleman. Anything that needs that much advertising can't be good!:D

Or they sell so good they can afford the advertising :)

Idk just looking for other suggestions before I pull the trigger on the purchase.

I like the high capacity mags and small size. Reliable I hear and look great.

Please...don't buy a handgun until you rent a few first.

My first center fire CC handgun was the early XD9. Everybody raved how wonderful it was and I stupidly bought it before trying. A couple months later I realized it wasn't for me and I rented a few different types at the range.

One of them was the CZ 75 in 40 S&W. I instantly loved how it felt and handled, so I bought a 75 in 9mm. Twelve years later I now have 4 CZ's and compete with them on a regular basis, in addition to having my P01 as primary CCW.:)

I'm not saying go with CZ, just try at least six different guns first before you drop $500 on a gun you haven't fired yet.

Impactguns actually just had the exact gun you're wanting on sale for $390. Its still listed on their website but its now sold out. I almost bought one, but just can't get past my dislike of the XD to buy an XDm.

Stated before. I can't try guns first. My local range has **** for rentals.

They have one single subcompact .45, Not one single .40 and a few beat up 9mm that FTF at least once every mag.

Will be a blind purchase unless I want to drive a bit.

I own a 3.8 XDm 9mm. It is a nice gun that comes with a 13 and 19 round.
They call it 2 guns in one. But I live in CT and can only put 10 rounds in either mag if I am using it for ccw.

The trigger is better than the Glock 27 gen 3 I have. Recoil is very manageable. Don't worry about the grip safety because you won't even notice is there. Actually, I kind of like that safety on it.

Accuracy is very nice but at least for me, it doesn't point as natural as a CZ for example. I absolutely like the looks of the XDm.

I have not gone into the cz forum that someone posted on this thread but if I had a choice of XDm 3.8 9mm or my CZ75 P-01 9mm, I choose the CZ. But you won't go wrong with either one.

Because of the CT laws, my XDm is the home defense these days because of the 19+1 capability.

Here, you are officially talked out of the XDM

CZ75 P-01 is my favorite semi-auto. Like it better than even my Sig P239.

Viper that sounds like a deal to me :)

Need to really read up more on the de cocker.

I didn't think it would happen but I guess I'be been talked out of the XDM :p

Thanks for all the replies. Will look more into Cz
