Can you really front pocket carry .357

Sox, those aren't the 'boot' grips

Those are the other type of UM's grips for the J-frame. The rubber on the backstrap helps take the sting outta maggies, and they give you a full 3-finger grip.

Personally, I don't care for them as-is. I recenty trimmed off a pair flush with the internal horizontal reinforcing rib, basically removing the bottom finger groove. Now, I essentially have 'boot' style grips which cover the backstrap. This has the added benefit of repositioning my trigger finger to better duplicate the feel of the large S&W frames.

Yea Vic, we are on the same page man. I have tried the same thing. I got frustrated when I ran into the metal liner, but it worked fairly well. Hopefully, someone will address this need. I called PGS gungrips to try and convince them of the market need. I love the SP!! Take it easy.

Eric, that's a good looking holster. Thanks for the photo. I see you use the Uncle Mike's boot grip too. I really like the 101 with that grip and front pocket carry.
But, I've recently been working over a cheap spring clip holster. I made a belt loop for it and wear it as a cross draw IWB. Works well is very comfortable. Still have some more work to do on it.

Sox, the Uncle Mike's item # for the shorter grips is 59015 (for the SP-101). These work great, and I like the way they change recoil management over the factory grips.

I carry my Taurus 650 everyday in a pocket holster that I made from a leather wallet. Or I have a couple of pair of Wrangler denim shorts that the Taurus fits snuggly in the watch pocket of.

It's all relative....depends on what you wear....any pants tight enough to support the weight will print and any loose enough to hide it will droop and yo will feel the weight more....if you live in a fashion conscious area, then you will probably not be happy with a that large a bulge in your pants (and neiher will your significant other unless it's 2 inches to the left)..

I sometimes carry my sp101 in an uncle mikes pocket holster(the inexpensive cloth one with a grip strip).

However I carry it in jeans that I have sewn the holster pocket to a depth that the grip sticks out of my pocket. I usually do this only on 1/2 day hikes etc. Just wear snug jeans and leave my shirt untucked. Works very well.

In my opinion a snubbie lighter and/or weaker than the sp101 has no business launching 357 ammo. They aren't strong enough to absorb trainig/practice sessions with full power ammo.
If you don't practice/train with ammo "A", you shouldn't use ammo "A" for concealed carry. I don't buy the common "I practice with 38, but carry 357." The lighter the gun, the worse the recoil difference becomes.

That being said: Correct gun, correct setup, front pocket 357 carry can be very easy/comfortable.

Heres a molded version of the pocket holster...its still alot of holster but is flexible enough to give where it has to....
shoot well

I don't do the front pocket, but load 125 Gold Dot's in my 640-1. My handloads duplicate that and mid range .357's for training. This J frame makes me look accurate.

.357 pocket carry

I would not carry nor shoot a narrow frame .357 magnum unless it was loaded with .38 special. .357 magnum is a high pressure cartridge, deserving at least a gun of medium size frame and high quality steel. Even carrying a snubby .357 in the pocket is going to draw attention. If a gun is going to be carried in my pocket, I would utilize a special pocket holster to smooth the outline of the pistol, which would be a semiautomatic such as the Bersa .380. If concealment is your primary concern, try utilizing a behind the back or ankle holster.

I see things slightly differently...If its small enough to conceal in a front pocket, with a good holster, is built well enough to take the punishment of full house loads and has "balance" in its weight....
light enough to carry front pocket and heavy enough to take a tad of recoil away....whats not to like about the 357 snub?
The SP fits that bill....some J frames also. A med framed gun is more comfortable to shoot for sure....but they dont fit in my pocket.
Shoot well
