Can we wait? Alternatives to the Republican and Democratic Parties

I agree with 45 LC 1000% about the UN. At the very least, the US should leave the UN and boot them out of our country.
Autocrats and dictators. And their ultimate goal is to disarm the entire world so they can have a world dictatorship.
Britain and Australia have given into their demands, look at the crime in both countries.
At least President Bush [for now] ignores the UN demands for the US to disarm.
Kerry on the other hand will hasten to sign a pending international gun ban law with the UN that supercedes the Second Amendment. The government would then start forcibly taking our guns.
I've heard from folks in all of the different military branches who say they've been asked already if they will fire on US civilians if they are ordered to take the civilians weapons away.

Advertizing pays big in politics

Re - comments about there will always be only 2 partys. Well if you arrest 2 independant candidates (libertarian and green) for trying to partake in the national TV election debates, we will always have only 2.
We used to allow a 3rd, but guess thats all out now. Maybe we should only have 1. That way there would be no problem with a decision by the general public. If the voting public only sees 2 candidates views, guess they will always vote for 1 or the other. So who runs the Country? Big Business. If the tv debates allowed for 5 or 6 candidates maybe big business would fork over less to the 2 major partys, particulary if a 3rd or 4th partys candidates views looked a heck of a lot like the general publics views on current issues, and just maybe the independants would pick up more funding from the general public. But we will never know, will we? All 5 of our non-cable channels spent 2 hours in prime time devoted to the 2 partys (we only have 5 channels here in northern California).
Re - comments on guns vs politics. We've have several revolutions in our country that had to be decited by force of arms used by the general population, and both of them, the founding of our country and the Civil (civil, of a citizen or citizens) War. Both had to do with specific freedoms denied.
Lets hope we don't have to do it again because of "specific freedoms denied". But given our past history, there is always that chance. And we have to ask ourselves, do we now have the resources to do it?

My view is that the Libertarians should forget about running as a third party, and instead should infiltrate the Republican Party. That way they leverage off the Republican's greater public acceptance, political machine, and funds. Also, they add to the Republicans vote share instead of detract from it.

This has already worked for the Socialists: look at how they've infiltrated and now influence the Democrats, the NEA, various environmental groups, Hollywood, AARP, etc. Now I'm hearing rumblings that they've taken over the Human Society of the United States (HSUS).

Your gun is doing nothing to influence rights other than basic life/liberty, since you are unwilling to use it except in "very severe circumstances".
I disagree. It is acting as a deterrent to a government that would otherwise be much more willing to impose further restrictions.

An analogous scenario is carrying concealed. I might never draw it in self-defense, but just the fact that I might have it makes a Bad Guy less likely to attack me.

Voting for a third party candidate is a wasted vote. In the next 100 years, you will never see a third party candidate elected President. In order to be elected, you must have media support, which none have. The media plays the largest part in electing a president.

Do I agree with everything the Republicans say? No. Do I agree with just about anything the Democrats say? Definately not. Do I wish there was a better choice that actually had an equal chance of winning? Absolutely.

Will I waste a vote on a thrid party candidate and increase the chance of Kerry getting elected? NO WAY! If you don't mind the consequences of that happening, come on and move here to Massachusetts. You will change your mind quickly.

Too recap:

1) Your gun is doing nothing to influence rights other than basic life/liberty, since you are unwilling to use it except in "very severe circumstances". (And health care is not a right, but having say in health care policy, is.)

2) You would not vote on single issues. You do care about the rest of the candidates platform, as you would not accept an apocolyptic bargain as an exchange.

Well, that's not quite what I meant to convey.

1) My rights are inherently mine. No government grants anyone rights. Our Bill of Rights does not grant us rights. It only tells the government what the government may not restrict.

My gun is simply the final guarantee that I can exercise my rights. If I have to resort to my gun to exercise my other basic rights, then I am truely in "very severe circumstances." As were the Minutemen. I can only hope that I never face such a test. If I do, I can only hope I meet it as well as the Minutemen did. Health care policy is a very trivial issue compared to the erosion of liberty. Not worth a cartridge, so to speak.

2) I do cast my vote on a single issue, but the hypothetical you posed was a bit too extreme for consideration. There is some point at which a solidly pro 2A politician holds other views too extreme for me to accept. At which point I'll have to consider alternatives. But I do better with real world examples.

Voting for a third party takes a vote away from both of the other two candidates. It is not a wasted vote.
Yes, we'll never see a 3rd party elected as long as folks have this 'wasted vote' attitude.

Waisting a Vote? did Bush win Florida by only 200+?

Waisting a Vote? Give me a break. How about not waisting any votes? Especially the ones you don't have.
How about registering and voting in multiple states? It has made national news that the so called snow birds from New York (registered to vote in NY) also migrate to Florida and register to vote there. Over 40K duplicated registrations. Why? Because New York doesn't need any more Democrat votes to carry that state. But Florida Does. Its worse than that. The duplicated votes (or non-duplicated votes in Florida) have various registration names. Just a few minor adjustments to first, last, or nicknames get you a vote in a state that you don't reside in. Now it has been reported that there are several Web sites that allow you to print out a voter registration card for several states. I havn't verified this. If you know of such post them here. But the general idea behind this is: If you know that your state is already a done deal, why vote there? Go vote where it might make a difference, in a different state where you own a residence or property. The Feds responded by calling for a National Voter Registration Database.
Had enuf of the tax system (which both partys say is long overdue for major revision)? Had enuf of 2 party rule where both candidates don't reflect many of your basic views? Had enuf of Government Databases to record you life's history? Got any alternatives?
