Can someone help me understand these?

I was at the range two days ago..I was mainly shooting my 3" GP100.
Half the time I was shooting for accuracy at 25yds using single action. The rest of the time, I worked on double action shooting at 7yds. I even left random chambers empty a few times to help detect any jerking and improve consistency. All using 357 mag ammo...
Had a great time! I love my GP!

"... It is not so much an issue of a concealed hammer snagging, but of the slot or channel allowing more potential intrusion of lint, etc, into the action that turns me off to the bodyguard type..."

I too have heard this, and while I don't own a shrouded hammer revolver, I have looked at them. I suppose, along with how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, it might be something to be concerned about, but....

its not a Grand Canyon straight into the heart of your action. The hammer is in there, its just a couple of walls who's intent is to keep the hammer spur from getting snagged.

No pocket holster I know of covers that part of the gun, either. Risk assessment time, for me, the risk of the hammer spur getting caught on the draw, or worse, fouled so the gun couldn't fire inside the pocket is more than the risk of debris getting in there and messing things up.

44 AMP, I agree with your assessment.

However, my pocket carry is a 442, so there is neither slot nor spur.

I can get good hits with it at 25 yards; have not tried past that distance, but intend to sooner or later.

While I have never carried a revolver with a shrouded hammer (I don't even own one), I would not deny anyone the right to carry one if he or she chooses. Or insist that there is no reason for them to exist.
Nor would I.
Discussing (on a "forum"), the merits, or the lack of, relative to shrouded hammers, or anything else, does not strike me as "insisting" anything. I think the word, "discuss", AKA, "debate", would be a better fit for the posts here.

Just out of curiosity has anyone tried using a baggie? I mean one of the cheap thin ones? (not freezer bag or Ziplock)

Got to wondering, a cheap baggie (loose fit, not wrapping the gun), with the snubnose revolver inside, inside a coat pocket, for instance? Keep crud out of the gun, but not enough material to tie up the mechanism?

It ought to work, even with a convention hammer gun, BUT, I haven't tried it, so don't know if the potential drawback is a matter of practical concern or not.

The gun would be protected from crud, you can reach right through to pull the trigger, and the blast from firing should shred the remainder of the bag so nothing to jam the gun. I don't know if it would work that way in the real world, though.

Anybody done it?
