Can Bush appoint Supreme Court Justices during his term?

NRALife,

I heard on the news this evening that Bush is going to appoint a Texas Supreme Court Justice by the name of Gonzales as White House Counsel.

Yes that is correct. I don't know if this is the first step for Gonzales on the way to the USSC, but some conservatives are not too happy about this because Gonzales is not as pro-life as they would like. I wish I new what his stand on the RKBA is. Maybe someone at the Texas State Rifle Association can tell me that? I will see.

Gore's expression?

Regarding Algore's " unusual" facial expression during his concession speech, as I recall, my first ( and still) impression was " my God, He looks like they've got him on prozac or something!".

paranoid? I'm not sure of ANYTHING until I see " Dubya" in front of the congress with his hand on a bible!

Here is a little excerpt from the FDR bio....

"The bill was never passed and FDR never was able to add judges. But, he was able to appoint seven new justices to the Supreme Court during his presidency. ........ The question today about the court packing topic is this: Was FDR trying to pack the courts so he could have more power in the government, of was he trying to help make the United States government more efficient?"

Well history has settled this question... FDR did get most of his socialist agenda's approved by the second court... ie... feds can regulate the minium wage. Welfare ok.... etc.. We lost a lot of our freedoms with that administration.

A constitutional amendment to fix the Supreme Court to its present size would be welcomed by me. Such an amendment give some guarantee that the court remains detached from politics. Decisions of the court are suppose to be based upon legal reasoning and not the political whim of the day.

You are not gonna believe this, but Chris Matthews from Hardball had tears in his eyes after Gore's concession speach! He stated how brilliant it was and was overcome by emotion. Let that be a signal to where his loyalties lie - how unprofessional!

Wow! I just found this thread in the archives.

I guess Mario Cuomo, once again, didn't know what he was talking about.

I guess he finally realized that, as we've not heard anything from the tool for quite some time.

Do you think Bush has the cajones to try to appoint a true constitutionalist judge, or even a conservative to replace O'Conner or do you think he is going to go weakkneed and appoint another soulter or what's her face?

Edited: When an old thread is relevant in what is happening today, then I think that it's a good thing to bring it back up. So I won't whine about it being 5 years old :D

Why do you think I brought it back up in the first place, Wayne? :)

Normally I'm not a big fan of bringing old threads to the fore again, either, but this one just seemed like such a good pick.

Fooled me! I was half way through the first page before I realized how old this post was!

I think this might be a record for 'Oldest Thread Resurection'...
